The Daffodil used to be a cinema in the 1920s. Now it's a restaurant redesigned tastefully with its Art Deco splendour intact by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen in 2008. The surroundings are glorious. The food is glorious. The service is glorious. £160-£200 for four but worth it as a treat at any time of year. Street parking outside or nearby. Check it out. You won't regret it. A standout eatery in an upmarket town full of outstanding restaurants.

Great for dinner or just pop in for excellently crafted cocktails. The food is as you would expect for an upscale evening as the menu reflects well thought out mains and the starter pairings are very good. The highlight every time we go are the drinks at the upstairs bar either before or after dinner.

Excellent wait staff and just watching the bartenders is fun.

We turned up here on spec for lunch, having attended a wedding service, so were dressed up nicely, and feeling in the mood for something a little more up-market than usual.
A quick search online for restaurants nearby produced The Daffodill, and it looked promising.

When we arrived, we were able to park almost directly outside (although we were lucky and I wouldn't count on repeating the feat.) The entrance was very stylish, preserving the look and feel of the classic cinema it used to be.
The decor inside continued the theme, with the bars along the back and the sweeping staircases up each side of the auditorium to the balcony. A live band played jazz on the stage.

We opted for the 'early ticket' menu (the full menu looked very nice, but the early ticket items happened to appeal to us.)
The tomato soup had balsamic onions and feta cheese, and was excellent.
The chicken terrine was very tasty too (although the rocket was a little strong.)

The twice backed souffle was light and delicate, and full of flavour. The pork, tender and complemented by a range of vegetables I wouldn't normally like, but which were very fine here.

Despite our best intentions, we also had dessert - Lemon tart, which had a brûlée crust on it, was accompanied by thick cream with vanilla seeds. Mouth-watering.

The service was attentive, but not intrusive, and the staff were engaging and friendly.

We aren't local to Cheltenham, but next time we're in the area, we'd certainly like to go back.

Always a good meal at The Daffodil

Such great stylish venue. Staff always so good. Food tasty & no rush with the tables. Can't stand other restaurants that impose sittings or time limits on tables - book a table and go eat here

Situated in an old cinema, was greeted at the door and shown to our table. Food was excellent and staff were always on hand. Nice that wine could be ordered by the carafe.
