If, like us, you are feeling homesick for France don't dispaire - help is close at hand right here in Cheltenham at L'Artisan. We have visited several times to enjoy the good value lunch menu or the truly excellent dinner menu. And it is all genuinely French, from the kitchen staff to the helpful and professional waiters and that's something you don't often find in this country. In fact it is just the sort of restaurant you might hope to find (if you are extremely fortunate) in France. But it is the inventive and superb cuisine that keeps drawing us back. Don't tell Michellin about L'Artisan - they would surely give it a rosette and then prices would go up and we wouldn't be able to get in!

We were looking for a restaurant for my OH's 50th birthday and found this restaurant in the top lists of places to eat in Cheltenham and we are so glad we did. Probably the best food we have had for a long time. We had the Lamb Navarin risotto and the Oxtail for starters which were excellent, we also saw other diners having the scallops and prawn starter and decided to add a 'fish course' to our meal which again was amazing. For mains we had the rib of beef to share and it was cooked perfectly, it came with a number of accompaniments and a choice of sauces and it went really well with the St Emillion that the Maitre'D recommended. By now we were very full but the desserts looked so good that we had to try them and we went for the chocolate fondant and also the special which was a date gateau, both superb and finished the meal perfectly.
We thought the prices were very reasonable and would have paid probably 50% more had we gone out at home to a similar standard restaurant in Manchester.
Chef came out to speak to us at the end of the meal and he told us about some upcoming changes to the menu, my missus already wants to come back and next time wants to have a 'tasting menu' comprising of the whole list of starters!
Overall a really charming restaurant, run by really charming people, great food and excellent service.

Loved this place. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It's great that all of the staff are French. So nice to find an authentic, non-chain restaurant. We'll be back!

Nothing is left to chance - from our first phone call to our last goodbye, everything was well organised. Elisabeth ensured that she understood the needs of our group. Yves produced wonderfully cooked food which was beautifully presented. Service was impeccable - attentive without being intrusive. Thanks to all at L'Artisan for looking after us so well.
