On a wet, cold day, looking for somewhere in Sherborne to have lunch, we stumbled across The Green. The restaurant looked inviting both outside and inside. The service was exceptionally good and we knew, as soon as the amuse bouche arrived, that we were going to enjoy lunch. The food, both taste and presentation, was exceptionally good. The vegan dessert that the chef produced for my wife was greatly appreciated as was the Rock Shandy, a non-alcoholic drink, popular in South Africa. The a la carte menu and the daily three course menu both offered interesting choices – a comprehensive list of allergens was given at the back of the menu. If we are in Sherborne again we would definitely choose to return here.

We live in Sherborne so are well aware of the Green and have heard very mixed things about it. The quality of the food is very rarely up for debate but I have heard whisperings about both the excessive wine mark up and the service.

We finally went along this weekend for my birthday meal. We had with us 2 family members who were over from California are very into their food and wine (not to mention good service).

We were greeted by Nick who was heading up front of house like old friends. He showed us to our table in a completely full restaurant.

Service -
Service was a little slow at the start of the night with a bit of a wait for our menu, drinks and olives but then it picked up and we weren't left waiting overly long between courses. Everyone who served us was very friendly.

Food -
The amuse bouch was delicious and set the tone for the stunning food that followed. The beef in particular was exceptional. No empty plates from any of us and certainly no complaints about the food.

Value for money -
The fixed price menu was great value at £27 for 3 courses. I think we all would have had it had the choice of mains been more to our taste. The wine was heavily marked up and two bottles of wine and 4 cocktails meant that the drink was more than half of our total bill. It makes the difference between this being a restaurant we would go to regularly and one reserved for a special occasion.

Overall - gorgeous. Can't believe this was our first visit after living in the town so long and we will definitely be back!

Fabulous celebration meal last week. The service was excellent, and all of the courses delicious, in particular the marmalade ice cream accompaniment to the chocolate dessert. Hope to return there soon.

Consistently excellent lunches, at an affordable price. Lovely menu, lovely service and period decor. Loved each course - the smoked chicken caesar salad was fresh, with a range of flavours, the cauliflower kimchi is unusual , perfectly served with exciting flavours. The food is a feast for the eye as well as the palate. Desserts are excellent, particularly the carrot cake with ginger and caramel accompanied by a blackcurrant sorbet
