My family visited this lovely inn for an impromptu family friday meal. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. My son particularly enjoyed the sticky toffee dessert!

We booked a table here for a family Easter lunch after being recommended. Couldn't fault it. Was very busy but had a lovely big table out of the way.The roast beef was delicious and the seafood gumbo amazing! The small people in our group were extremely impressed by the easter egg sundaes and our lovely young waitress. Will definitely be returning.

Over the easter weekend we popped in twice, once with friends for an evening drink, and once with the kids. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed the atmosphere of this beautiful Devon pub.

Special mention must go to our server Emma who was attentive and went to great lengths to ensure we were enjoying our visit. She was particularly lovely with the kids.

We will be back soon, and hope to try some more of those amazing fish dishes.

This Pub/restaurant was one of the first places we went out to eat together so we decided to book a table last night for Valentine’s Day. We had a lovely evening on the previous visit and remembered the food being fantastic so we were really looking forward to it. The Inn is lovely and cosy with great views and a nice atmosphere but it is not a great place for any seafood enthusiast. The shellfish sharing starter for 2 was small for 2 people, drowned in cream and most importantly the shellfish was well over cooked, very small and rubbery and included a fair amount of grit. My partner ordered the Gurnard and managed to have 2 pieces of fish which were both overdone. One piece tasted ok and the other slightly on the turn.
I ordered the Thermidor and from the description was looking forward to a bubbling, cheesy pot of fresh fish and sauce. Instead I was presented with 3 scallop shells filled with very over cooked Shellfish and lots of cheese melted on top.
The ‘hand picked crab’ was actually more like crab sandwich paste and tasted horrible. The waitress asked us if everything was ok and we very politely said parts were lovely but not fantastic and we ended up feeling like we were being a pain and got the cold shoulder from then on.
I think it’s safe to say that nothing about the meal was ‘fresh’ it was undoubtedly frozen before hand so perhaps claiming fresh local fish is a bit unfair.
If you’re expecting basic pub grub you will be pleasantly surprised but don’t expect great seafood, not a patch on No7 in Torquay and prices are similar.
We’re not difficult people it just didn’t taste nice so a little conversation about that would have been appreciated.

Lovely pub formerly a seaman’s mission. Good food friendly service. Excellent seafood selection. Nice view of Cockwood harbour. Some parking available but better to walk so you can sample all the wares on offer
