We were lucky that it was a beautiful sunny day for our visit, a wet or windy day would have been a disaster. The guide book was useful and worth the money. Parts of the castle site would be challenging for anyone with mobility or respiratory health issues, there are steps and steep climbs. The views are spectacular in all directions.
We enjoyed a well deserved ice cream at the cafe afterwards.

A brisk walk down the hill, over the impressive footbridge and up on to the island rewards you with breathtaking views and creates an atmospheric experience of Arthurian legends. Busy, worth it.

Get the defibrillator ready because this is a heck of a hike, especially back up the hill to the town. There is a shuttle service if you are prepared to wait and don’t mind risking a COVID express. Make sure you go to the loo before going in because it’s another epic hill climb if you change your mind in the queue. You can book time slots but there isn’t a separate queue for booked and non booked so this quickly breaks down so frankly at busy times you might as well just turn up.

Hi, we're sorry you had to queue for the Land Rover, it does get busy at peak times so we recommend visiting early morning or later in the afternoon.

10/10 views, really nice interpretation boards and well-thought out route around the ruins. They have built a new visitor exhibition since my last visit which is small but perfectly formed and informative. Would highly recommend a visit :)
