This family run boutique hotel oozes turn of the century charm, with the personal service to match it. Freshly renovated and very clean, this former courthouse has been equipped with excellent beds, which is after all, why you are here. The area is quiet, the air is fresh (yes it is. Don't let the mill put you off.) and it all adds up to a great sleep. The breakfast is included and was home-made with tea served in proper pots and cups. I would have like a bathtub, not just a shower, to soak after a hard day of kayaking desolation sound. Other than that, it was a wonderful 2 nights and I will be back.

This hotel is in the old historic section of Powell River. The rooms are decorated with antiques and many old family treasures. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the breakfast, included in the room rate. There was not one set breakfast but many items to choose from. The rooms were very clean, fresh and well appointed with a TV, small fridge, AC,hair dryer and toiletries. If you have time, explore the historic area to see beautifully restored homes and other buildings. I'd stay here again.

Using Tripadvisor as reference, I decided to spend three nights in the Old Courthouse Inn while attending the Pacific Region International Student Music Academy in June.
My first reaction as I approached was negative - could this be alongside a pulp mill? - it was. But, the plumes coming from the mill were steam, and the mill was running just one shift a day, so there was never a problem with noise, smell etc. I soon forgot it was there.
Meanwhile the building, its interior, its decor, the staff, the food in the cafe, my room, the location in a quiet heritage section out of the town - all perfect.
I was very comfortable in the Sheriff's Office - small but well equipped bathroom, fridge, TV, comfortable bed, window and air conditioning, access to a small verandah.
PJ and his staff are so attentive - the staff in the cafe are skilled and friendly - and the menu for breakfast is totally surprising ...... Powell Riviera Eggs Bene were a highlight, but it was one of many.
The cafe was open in the evening too with a small but exciting menu - and my plan to explore Powell River's top rated bistros and restaurants went out the window after my first night in Edie Rae's cafe [love the pictures of Edie] - the food and service brought me back to eat again each of the other two nights too.
I will be back soon - not just to enjoy the walking trails in Powell River, but to relax and enjoy the Old Courthouse Inn and take more time to examine the memorabilia, antiques and photos which are everywhere in the old building.

Room Tip: I loved the Sheriff's Office - but I don't think there is a poor location here?

The Inn actually looks better than the photo shows. I also have no reason to think the rooms and service are anything other than as splendid as the promotional material says.
However: be aware. The Inn is directly opposite a paper mill. Anyone with a serious respiratory problem, such as asthma, or certain allergies, any condition aggravated by airborne particulate or pollution, should take note and use caution before booking this establishment. My wife (who has a chronic lung condition) started to react before we even arrived at the gates. We then discussed the situation, during which I (multiple allergies) also started choking up. Finally, we decided to forego the cost of the room (not an easy decision for senior citizens!) to protect ourselves from our worsening symptoms.
We left the area.

We had a lovely 2 night stay in this quirky and comfortable hotel. The owners are extremely friendly and have a lovely place full of history. The breakfast included in the price is lovely- lots of choice. Powell River has lots to do from the Heritage Walk round the old Townsite to the scenic Inland Lake walk not forgetting the Townsite brewery!
