We booked two nights at the end of October, but liked it so much we cancelled another leg of our trip to stay a third night. Wish we could have stayed longer! We've had a lot of experience in Crimea, and this tops everything else we've seen by a long shot. The owners, a young couple from Kiev, have created a unique and absolutely lovely little "village" of small cottages and larger houses that clings to the hillside in the picturesque little town of Alupka. The grounds are spacious and immaculate (with nice eco-minded landscaping touches and even a very productive little chicken coop/yard - No, there's no crowing rooster in the morning!) and center around a very nice, large pool and a fantastic kitchen and common space. The views of the sea and the town from the terraces and balconies are stunning, the room couldn't have been more cozy, clean and up-to-date, and the location is perfect - a few minutes walk from the amazing and huge Vorontsov park/palace, which took us a full two days to fully explore, and a short walk from the small municipal beach. This is not your typical beach resort in that there's not much beach to speak of (the shoreline is mostly rocks and cliffs). So there's none of the annoying, generic beach-resort crap that ruins so much of Crimea. The vibe is more mellow, kicking it in a beautiful, "authentic-feeling" small town dug into the mountainside. (Which means a lot of stairs, btw!) The Riviera this is not, and, thank goodness, there's no shortage of post-Soviet funkiness. The town itself is a funky delight, with lots of good, fresh local food on offer at the market, as well as a well-stocked standard-issue supermarket and lots of smaller food/wine/beer shops. I suspect it would be rather less delightful at the height of tourist season when the waterfront resorts fill up. There were only a handful of cafes still open in town when we were there, but we ate like kings at the excellent Karamba restaurant, which had more than enough options to keep us interested for three days and was only a two minute walk from 4-Sezona. The owners live on-site and are very hands-on. They were always available to help with things like laundry and finding drivers, and their staff were lovely. (I don't know if the owners speak any English, as we're Russian-speakers, but I'm betting they do - they seemed like very cultured folks.)

To sum up, unless you're into lame clubbing, crappy expensive food, and the fairly icky Crimean crowds, skip all that Yalta and Koktebel junk and go to Alupka for a nice, laid-back, down-home rest! Does a body good, I guarantee!

Room Tip: We really liked the semi-luxe, which the top floor of a two-unit cottage with a big balcony right next to a rushing mountain stream.

Stayed for 1 night in June 2013, but normally people are staying for longer periods. Liked hotel amenities and overall layout of the hotel. Should be kids friendly - there is a nice kitchen for everyone's use, playground and a pool. We had semi-luxury room, which was very nice and clean. Would recommend this hotel. Though not sure how far is the beach, since we did not have time to explore, but seemed a bit far, especially if you have to climb on your way back
