Owner description: Hunot State Natural-historical reserve. One of the most attractive places for tourists in Nagorno-Karabakh. It's a great canyon with amazing nature, old ruins and wild caves.

My choice was to make a stage of Janapar trail, from Karintak to Shushi. The trail is spectacular, goes inside Hanut Canyon, crosses the river more times with gorgeous bridges and passes for the wonderful Zontik Waterfalls (Umbrella as most of the people call it), and then goes up to arrive in Shushi, passing among its ruins. If you want a easier hike you can do the contrary, going down from Shushi to Karintak (but I advice what I did!)

From Shushi drive through village Shosh. Then in 2-3 minutes you will see the sign Hounot Gorge. Turn right, park your car and take a hike. Unbelievable beauty!

Our driver had a hard time to find the trail entrance. If you want a peaceful hike probably don't go on the weekend . This is the favourite picnic place for Stepanakert families which bring down their stuff to BBQ including foot long kebab sticks. Few go all the way to the end to the grotto with the waterfall. You can do like the locals and bring a bathing suit. There is a abandoned village in the canyon. Hiking boots help

Excellent canyon with waterfalls, creek, forest around. be hidden from summer heatwaves and have a barbecue experience in designated areas (own-cooked).

Climbing and hiking are excellent fit to this destination.

Hunot canyon is one of the magnific places I ever visited. It a monument built by nature, a great walking parh with river, mini-waterfalls, log-made bridges and the "Umbrellas"! One can spend a whole day in canyon, some people even stay overnight in tents. Umbrellas are small caves, with water running over them. When you get inside, it's like you are in parallel universe!
