We had lots of fun at this botanical garden! Took short shuttle (not in English but that was ok), visited museum with lots of samples of plant and animal life and information about how people lived in earlier times. Gorgeous plants and flowers, well labeled.

Never before have I been so disappointed by such a large place like this. Firstly, for a "city with no winter", we were surprised to find pretty much nothing to look at (unless you just want to look at trees); the "Orchid Garden" had no orchids, and this went on throughout the park. But the transport system within the park was unbelievably bad. The shuttle bus took us up the hill to the back of the park, and we planned to check out some places before getting the bus back down. However, there's a problem. The bus will only take you to the next stop, then everyone is forced to get off. If you want to skip a stop, you can't. What's worse, you have to get off the bus and join a 40-minute queue to get on the next bus to the next stop - this repeats itself over and over! What this means is that you have no time to actually check out the park - your day is spent in queues. We realised this after our first stop, but by then it was too late - we knew it was going to take almost three hours to get back to the main gate, and that's without walking around the park and checking it out.

I ended up taking maybe 6-7 photos during the whole time there; there really wasn't anything of note to look at! I'm sure it's nice at other times of the year but as I say, Xishuangbanna is billed as the "city with no winter" which is clearly not true!

This Botanical Garden was right next to the resort which we stayed during our trip in Xishangbana and we won't miss the chance to visit this beautiful garden. In fact the garden was very large and you have to spare more than 4 hours if you really want to explore most part therein. The entry price was not cheap but value for money as you could find most of the plantations in the southern part of China right here including some of the scrubs used as medicines. You could either followed the footpath or used the map as your GPS to walk around or purchase the tickets in using the electric-driven shuttle with local guide in touring around. The weather in November was really great and photographers could have snapshots with blue sky and white clouds as background. Highly recommend this 5A Tourist Spot to visitors when travelling in Xishangbana.

Entrance fee is quite steep with 104 RMB pp. (July 15)
The place is large and has 2 trolley trails. One of 23.5 km and an other of 8 km. Instead of paying extra for a noisy and smokey (smoking is permitted) ride, we opted to walk.

The gardens are beautiful with butterflies, birds and mosquitoes plentiful. (Don't forget your repellent!) Not being a large botanist myself, I'm not sure a walk in the park warrants this entrance fee, nor did we manage to find the 'dragon trees' which were thought to be extinct and one of the interesting reasons to visit the park.
