Owner description: Pulau Koaba, which is also known as Kalong Island (Fruit Bat Island), is a low-lying circular island measuring 500 metres across and appearing to comprise a core of taller trees surrounded by dense mangrove. At dusk, the sight of thousands of bats leaving their roost and heading for their feeding grounds is a magnificent spectacle.

I recorded the time during their escape from hive. It was at 5.45 and you can see until 7.00 pm the bats coming out from their hideouts.

We stayed next to the island during our boat trip. The sunset was incredibly red and before the dark the skies filled with bats. Huge ones. Don't forget your binoculars or a good lens for your camera. Great for night swimming in the ocean too.

We spent the afternoon on the boat, went to Padar Island, had some time to swim and go snorkeling before being in position to watch the flying foxes. We hear them before seeing thousands of them flying over the boat to the next island
