Review of Playa La Jaquita

Playa La Jaquita
Ranked #2 of 5 things to do in Alcala
Attraction details
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A superb coastal promenade walk stretches from Alcala, small harbour town along the coast with only a short interruption to Cueva del polvo (5kms) suitable for kids, skates, skate boards bikes and even wheel chairs (up to beyond halfway) designed in from the start.
Just past the palatial Gran Melia Palacio d'Isora- which has its own direct access, is Playa La Jaquita, a black sandy beach in it's own little bay.
The beach itself is immaculate and traversed by wide boardwalks. A hoist with inflatable sides allows the wheelchair bound access to the sea.
Lifeguards (two or three) were in evidence from an SOS station -so safety paramount here. A toilet block puts anything in UK to shame.
There is a well stocked beach bar run by the nearby 5-star Gran Melia hotel with all the usual drinks ,snacks and ices.
Surrounding the beach are numerous rock pools and very unusual large shallow sea area limited by a vertical pole boundary allows super safe sea swimming.
All in all a fantastic facility!

A superbly clean and well kept beach. Probably the cleanest beach toilets I’ve ever come across. Lots of car parking (free of charge) then walk along the fabulous coastal path in front of the fabulous Palacio de Isora (very high end) resort ... in fact they manage the beach and cafe/bar ... to the beach. Lifeguards are on duty to protect people from the sometimes deceptively dangerous swell

Always clean. The views are great as are the beaches ... well recommended

A fantastic walk is from La Arena to Alcala. We were staying at a hotel in Puerto Santiago and drove our car 5-10 minutes to the edge of La Arena and easily parked there. From there, we had a fantastic one km walk along the sea on a mostly paved path (would guess it would be great for rollerblading) that led to the start of Alcala where we, much to our surprise, encountered this fantastic beach. There are different parts to sit or swim at but we chose the largest area. My two sons and I had a fantastic time swimming and body surfing while my wife enjoyed the sun on the beach. It was not super warm but just warm enough to avoid getting too cold in the sea. The only negative was that it was fairly crowded but that might be because it was a busy holiday period (just after New Years). We took the same path back to La Arena but that was not boring as we were treated to new views as we were now going in the opposite direction from when we first walk there an hour or two earlier.

Very nice beach and not too rocky. Kept very clean but not over crowded by locals or tourists so good to relax.
