Coral Beach Club Review

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 18, 2018
Positive:
1. Clean room facilities- includes shower heater, clean sheets, towels
2. Swimming pool includes jacuzzi (but takes a long time to warm)
3. I like the "duyans" and chairs facing the beach (place to sleep, read, and reflect)

Negative:
1. Beach front area is not conducive for swimming (I don't appreciate the floating bamboo huts)
2. Very dirty beach front! - not child friendly ( I saw a Redhorse Bottle, trash, etc.)
3. Too many persistent vendors and community along shoreline "cat-calls" (I was in my pajamas, not even in swim wear), even by the duyan/seats in beach front, vendors would be persistent.
4. Food is over priced (Bulalo for 700 pesos, breakfast for 300-400 pesos- too expensive for Batangas average meal price)

Hello Diane,

Thank you for your review, we really appreciate your feedback.

We are constantly striving to improve the Beach in Matabungkay. Thanks to the Mayor a beach cleaner has been purchased and should be very helpful. We also clean our portion of the beach every morning and check periodically during the day/night. We have also been in contact with local Barangay to improve the situation with the vendors. We would also be happy to help if you would let us know, we will post a guard to improve your experience.

Thank you for your review and we hope to see you again soon.

        Reviewed December 29, 2017

I was a regular customer at this well maintained resort until recently. Here is my experience for the last 12 months. I always use the same phone number for the resort for contacts, which is listed on their website.

I stayed there during the last day of Dec 2016, and spoken to the manager in charge. I found out that the British Owner (part owner) had left for good. This lady criticised the British owner hinting she favoured foreigner. However, during my stay, I noticed the service standard had dropped as compared to the days when the British owner was managing it day to day.

She was very hands-on, for example if you complaint TV problem, she would call in the technician, and she would come to the room to check that the set works before letting the technician sign off the job.

        Things now got worst.
Dec 11, 2017, 11:45am - I message the resort to book a room for Dec 31. No reply,
        Dec 11, 2017, 9:20pm - I messaged again, no reply.
Dec 11, 2017, calls were made at 1:21pm, 9:18pm, and 9:56pm but the phone was unattended, no one picked up the calls.
Dec 12, 2017, I sent and email at 3am, as well as a test message at the same time. Back came a reply saying there are vacant rooms, so I am booked for Dec 31, 2017.

On Dec 28, 3pm. I text them again, at 3pm, to book for Dec 30 also as I wish to stay two nights. No answer.
Dec 28, 7pm. I text them again, and back came an answer that I do not have a booking on Dec 31, 2017.
However, I managed to get a booking for Dec 30, the receptionist AJ confirmed the booking via text message.
Minutes later, I received another text message " Sorry Sir, but we are already full the 30th also. we are cancelling your booking, This is the resort manager. Jonathan Davis"

        I am shocked.

I did not expect the quality of service to be so bad. From a resort I came to promote for many years, and brought numerous customer to them.

Hence my very very poor rating of "Terrible"

Room tip: I really cannot recommend this place anymore, unless their service standard improved dramatically to what it used to be.

        Good Afternoon Mr. Tan,

I am sorry that your experience at Coral Beach was not up to standards. I can assure you that we work very hard to ensure a pleasant experience in our resort.

I believe your reservation was fixed as you and I spoke, however you chose to stay at another location which we completely understand. I believe your reservation was not canceled until you made your decision.

Thank you for your feedback as it is always welcome.

Beautiful surroundings well kept and maintained. Room spacious with good air condition. The A.C. system was very quiet. Food excellent. Staff friendly and courteous. Always smiling. Provision of drinking water in the room very poor as only two bottles given for a overnight stay for 4 people. Also coffee provision inadequate. Again two sachets given for 4 people. Did ask for more but only given 1 extra bottle of water given. Beach maintenance extremely poor considering a charge is imposed by the council on entry per person.

        Good Morning,

I apologize for the slow response. I somehow missed this review.

I would also like to comment on the provisions. I have spoken with the staff to ensure that this will not happen again and I agree that for a family of 4 the standard provisions is not enough. We should not encounter this again at Coral Beach.

Thank you for your review and we hope to see you again very soon.

A great resort if you want a quick escape from Manila. Clean room, functional bathroom, firm bed. Small but cool pool, jacuzzi. in front of beach. Amazing staff thank you Jun Girlie and Flexie. Five star service from these 3 servers. They should be promoted. Front desk girls always greet you with a smile. Quiet place. We loved our stay and it exceeded my expectations.

cons: beach front full of rafts. you can walk to the left end of the beach and you will find a clean beach no rocks just pure sand. lots of vendors they even ask you even if youre sitting inside the resort even if youre in the jacuzzi(heater broken at the time) Sunset is fantastic wait for it.

Food is good but pricey we spent 2000 pesos for lunch. 800 for dinner for three etc Big johns pizza is good so as fish and chips Food range from 350 up some 250 as well. there was a tiny stain in the middle of the bedsheet it was replaced upon request with crisp clean sheets.

Remember that this is not Boracay. Matabungkay is a nice beach if properly maintained by the govt but its not. Resort wise its the best place in lian. They got excellent staff even the pool guy is respectful. We will definitely come back. My daughter super enjoyed her stay.

We did not end up staying at Coral after we felt humiliated by one of the staff named Agnes. We were a family of 8 with kids, supposed to check in last July but when we arrived late morning, the storm Gorio was being felt. The staff were busy removing the facilities (lanterns, couches, lights, hammocks, etc.) We were saddened by the thought that we will end up being stuck in the resort without being able to do much activities. The least we could do was to use the freezing cold outdoor pool. In short, we won't fully enjoy the facilities, the beach and the nice ambience that we will be paying for. Despite of the situation, we did not want to disappoint the kids, at the same time, lose the value of our hard earned money. So we just decided to take the risk but kindly asked the staff to reduce the room rates further for a little consideration since we will occupy 4 rooms in total. But only to end up into a nasty argument. Instead of entertaining our humble request, they just simply told us “They can’t.” We wanted to talk to the manager for a negotiation but the other staff said in Tagalog, that it is better that we just cancel our booking rather than losing their job if we insisted to talk to their manager. That is when we started feeling uneasy. So we seek for the OIC since the manager is not available. Then this lady named Agnes talked to us. We thought she could help but she was worst. It was a cheap and unprofessional approach, she said in Tagalog, that it is fine and not a problem if we will not continue to stay since they still have other guest arriving. For a minute, we blushed and felt insulted. Where is the hospitality and professionalism of these people? I, who happens to be in the hospitality industry knew right away that the ladies' approached were disgusting and inappropriate. We knew that we were helpless because of their mindset. Seems like the message they were trying to convey us is, you are not that important so just go. So we walked out....mad, humiliated and insulted. But what Coral Beach Club staff did left a really bad scar in our hearts. Luckily, another resort nearby though not as classy looking but very welcoming and the staff are friendly and professional.

        Jedkiel,

I apologize for the bad experience you had at Coral Beach. Unfortunately, the employee you spoke about in your review is no longer with Coral Beach Club and since this incident happened in July 2017, it is very difficult to ascertain what she was thinking in your situation. I can assure you this type of behavior is not tolerated; our staff is mostly long time employees that certainly know better than to treat a guest in this manner. I can assure you that every guest in our resort is important to us and this should have never happened.

If you would like to consider us again, please contact JD and I will ensure you and all our guests have a pleasant stay here at Coral Beach Club.
