My fiance and I enjoyed a lovely candle-lit meal for Valentine's Day at the Old Rectory. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful, with the chairs decorated with white sheet and red ribbons, roses on the tables and red love hearts around the room.

The food was really lovely, and the portions were just right. The main (we had pork) came with a generous portion of vegetables, and the mashed potato was really tasty.

The service was really friendly, and to top it off each table had a box of chocolates wrapped beautifully in red wrapping paper.

We're getting married here in July and are now even more excited!

I bought my partner a night and dinner in this hotel as part of his Christmas present. It is a lovely hotel in a lovely setting. A few niggles though. We had the deluxe room what wasn't really well finished considering it is supposedly been refurbished, there are no chairs to sit on just a very hard bench, we borrowed two chairs from the bar. When we looked at a standard double room the next day it was much nicer with two comfortable chairs to sit in. We went to the bar for a drink, I ordered a gin and tonic only for the young girl serving to promptly pour the whole tonic on top of the gin, I pointed out to her that she shouldn't do that as I only have half a tonic at a time but she merely shrugged!! We went into the restaurant where we were the only people dining, in fact we were the only people staying in the hotel. The restaurant felt cold and there was definitely zero atmosphere. Having said that the restaurant was lovely, the grounds are lovely and the food was very good. I could see why it would be popular for weddings. I have given an average score mainly for the room - the food however would score four stars, the room two. I would stay again, perhaps in summer when it would be busier and would ask for a standard room not the "deluxe" !!

Thank you for your review. We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your time with us overall and that you intend to return. January is perhaps our quietest time and we regret that this may have meant a lack of atmosphere during your stay. We pride ourselves on offering comfortable accommodation. This includes rooms heated to the correct temperature. Whilst we aim to reduce our carbon footprint we have theromstat controlled heating installed in our restaurants to ensure our guests are comfortable, particularly in cold weather. I am very sorry the restaurant was not warm enough for you on this occasion. The bench in room 3 was installed to conserve space but we are currently reviewing the furniture in the Deluxe room to include additional seating. I very much hope this will be installed for your next visit. I would like to thank you for your review, we greatly value your feedback.

As always the food was exceptional and the service extremely good. We had a 3 course lunch and were not kept waiting even though there were over 60 people in our party. We love coming to this venue and recommend it.

All I can say is that if you are looking for a great place for a New Years Eve party, or any function really, then book The Old Rectory here in Norwich.
Friendly staff
Reasonable prices
Fantastic food accommodating all preferences and allergies
They also do weddings too. We have already booked for this years party and no doubt will be attending some Sunday lunched too. Colin, Diane, Ian, Becky and all the other staff will welcome you with a friendly smile. Happy New Year Old Rectory xxx

Room Tip: All rooms have good views of the grounds

This is the third time our party visited this hotel on New Years Eve. As usual there was a warm welcome in this cosy, friendly, family run hotel. The staff were well motivated and provided excellent service throughout. The three course evening meal was delicious and the music was varied catering for all tastes especially the older generation. The manager came round to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves but he already knew they had because he knows how to throw a party. What a wonderful evening. Thank you so much.
