When in Taal, of course it's a must to try their famous Tapang Taal. At Feliza, they did not disappoint. We also ordered their Infused Iced Tea which was a perfect match to our meal and a welcome treat from the heat.
We were also given a tour of their B&B at the 2nd floor.
We would love to stay here next time around.
A good place to recommend to friends visiting this part of Batangas.
I actually enjoyed the tour a lot more than the food. I am not really a desserts person but I enjoyed the chocolate and orange cakes. The coffee is also good.
The staff is helpful and the owners should us around the place and told us the stories that they uncovered while they were developing the place. I also enjoyed taking photos everywhere and even the neighboring houses from the second floor.
Dining in Feliza Taverna Y Cafe was such a wonderful experience because there was so much history in the restaurant and in the food they serve. It was like visiting your grandmother's house in the province during a special occasion where all the special heirloom dishes were prepared. Based on the dishes we ordered, I knew that there was so much time and effort that was put into each one of them. No wonder each dish was rich and each bite was a burst of flavor.
My personal favorite was their bestseller La Favorite del Fraile (P375), a Spanish beef dish that was marinated in red wine and spices. It must have taken days of steeping in the marinade for the flavors to penetrate and hours of slow cooking for the meat to be so tender. The Chicken Relleno circa 1940s with Salsa Monja (P300) was also a lovely dish. This roasted chicken dish stuffed with chorizo, ham, quezo de bola, and dried fruits took two days to prepare but will only take you a few minutes to finish because it was soooo good. The Sinaing na Tulingan which was cooked the traditional way in kamias was also a must-try. All the dishes came with diced potatoes. The chicken relleno also came with beans while the other two dishes also had salad with a yummy dressing.
During our visit, it was such a pleasure meeting and talking to chef Giney Villar. What made my visit even more special was that she personally gave us a tour of their beautiful bed and breakfast along Calle Felipe Agoncillo in Taal, Batangas. Aside from the dining area in the ground floor, they also have an open air balcony where customers can dine, and two air-conditioned rooms for those who wish to stay for a night or two. All over the place were antique pieces, memorabilia, and pictures of Feliza Diokno, private secretary to former president Emilio Aguinaldo, and former owner of the home.
In one of our conversations, she said that in the past, building a house like Feliza's took a long time to complete because roads still weren't good, transporting wood was difficult and ageing the wood took years to complete. Relating it to the dishes I ate, I realized that having something good really takes a long time sometimes but it will last a long time.
I am so happy with this new find and will definitely come back to try their other dishes.
Has an old Spanish feel and what's really nice is that they offer a tour of the house while you wait for the food.
The house had a strong Spanish history with relations to the mason society of the early 1900s and to President Aguinaldo.
Food, however, is mediocre (average) at best.
