Nice rural village pub. Quite narrow lanes to get there, but well worth the journey. Friendly locals, excellent ales, room was spot on. Comfy bed, good shower. Breakfast was really good. Pet friendly. Landlady was very welcoming & chatty. Will definitely go back.

Room tip: If you like a traditional pub, don’t miss out on this one.

We had lunch here. It was delicious and the portions were very generous. Had lots of character and a lovely atmosphere. Felt relaxed with our 6 month old. The land lady was very welcoming and made us feel at home.

We were desperate for an evening meal as we were visiting relatives in Tiverton. We’d booked to stay the other side of Tiverton and they couldn’t serve us dinner. I think the chef had gone home! Anyway after many phone calls that evening, the Butterleigh welcomed us and we had the best time. Lovely landlords, great staff, great fun, great food. We will be back.

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting family, the pub itself is located in a lovely area.

However that's all I can say positive about this place oh and the breakfast was lovely!

On arrival no one was there to meet us, I had to yell through the pub area.
The room itself; outdated, dark and unclean. The pictures do not reflect the room.

The bed is uncomfortable, the pillows are non existence so bring your own. The duvet is hard and bobbly as it's obviously old and been washed ALOT.
After spending the day out in the rain and wind, we were both cold so tried to turn the heating on, we were unsuccessful. The heating is on a timer so in the morning it came on and the room was to hot. Maybe it should be up to the individual room as to when they would like to warm up the room.
The shower had mould inside and had not been cleaned for a while.

On leaving a review on booking. Com I received a private message from the owner. A very passive aggressive message that made me feel uncomfortable. Just take a look at his replies to people who have left lower rating in the Inn.
Maybe take feedback and learn from it.

The two stars are for the breakfast and the dog.

Hi Jackle. In previous correspondence elsewhere, you ended our exchange, which I respected as we had both had our say regarding your recent one night stay. Subsequently, with a quest that could appear obsessive, you posted another review here, which is difficult to overlook. Sometimes, a review pops up where the writing style and language used by the author seems to tell a bigger story than its actual content. We still cannot comprehend what has prompted this level of annoyance.

We acknowledge that there are some ‘wear and tear’ decorative issues we have to address, and we have inspected the bed, pillows and bedding and we replace items regularly. The room had definitely been cleaned, although we regret this fell short of your standard – our cleanliness score on B.com is currently running at 9.3 out of a possible 10. We are trying to arrive at the optimum solution for the provision of heating at a time when energy costs have soared, and when many guests find the rooms too warm. We accept your observation regarding lighting and have increased the brightness of main lamps. We had already scheduled an upgrade for all bathroom lighting to safer, brighter fittings. Notably, I understand that Jo enquired, as she always does at breakfast, whether you experienced a comfortable night, and you said nothing to indicate to the contrary that may have enabled us to offer something by way of an apology.

We are never complacent, but subsequent to your visit, guests staying in the same room have given ratings of more than double that you gave, and the average rating for the pub since then is running at just below 9/10, with a comfort score of 9.1 and a bed rating of 8.6, all substantiated on Booking.com.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your visit, but are happy that our dog and the breakfast escaped your ire, which at least demonstrates some empathy for the character of the pub and it’s hardworking staff.

Stayed overnight in a twin room whilst visiting relatives in the area. Super dog friendly place ( no issues with our Staffy !!), very hospitable, helpful and welcoming staff. The Inn is set in a lovely quiet rural spot with plenty of space to just chill and relax. Rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee provided. Food is exceptional and the breakfast provided is cooked to absolute perfection. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
