As soon as you see this beautiful home you feel like you have stepped back in time. And then you enter the home, ...and you have. Claude has spent years restoring this amazing home and he has left no detail undone. The original stone walls, now exposed inside the home, along with all the woodwork and furnishings, create an atmosphere reminiscent of old Quebec. The craftsmanship of the fully-equipped kitchen, the large gathering space, the comfortable bedrooms, the claw-foot tub bathroom, and the roof-top terrace all lend to the charm of this home. Located near the citadel and the old city, it is a short walk to all the wonderful sites. After a day of exploring we would walk home to enjoy a glass of wine in the roof-top hot tub overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Each morning Claude arrives to create an amazing breakfast, an event that is as fun to watch as it is delicious to eat. This elegant and charming home and the impressive city of Quebec provided my family with a vacation full of warm memories. I wholeheartedly recommend Maison La Chapeliere, it was a pleasure!

Before I booked our vacation, I read so many reviews on so many vacation properties. When I stumbled upon this one day, purely by chance, I immediately was struck by the numerous mentions of the proprietor, Claude. In fact, so much so, that I wondered if one individual could REALLY make that big a difference--and it caused me to doubt the validity of all of the feedback.

Putting my reservations aside (mostly because of the location and the fact that it had three bedrooms), I booked our trip.

This single decision was the best move I've made for a family vacation. We arrived on a Friday evening--after travelling in a mini-van over 24 hours--and from the moment we stumbled out of the vehicle, Claude was there to greet us and make us feel at home.

There were five of us, including my wife, my two daughters, and my soon to be son-in-law. Quebec--and Maison La Chapeliere has a different story and charm for each of us. I'll stick to mine, but suffice it to say, each of us had a lovely time.

The reasons I would recommend this B&B are many, but I'll start but summarizing it in a statement I made to Claude in private on the morning of our departure. I told him that this was the first vacation that I had taken where I wasn't chomping at the bit to get back to real life. I could have easily stayed another week. Probably even another month. I loved Quebec. I loved Maison La Chapeliere. And Claude was the icing on the cake. He IS all that other reviewers have written. At risk of being over the top--I feel fortunate that my family was able to meet such a unique and enjoyable representative for Quebec.

If you've already spent half of the time that I did researching vacation properties (which was well over 100 hours), stop right now and book this place. It is the the second place that I have ever booked where I felt as though I received a good value for my money. Here are some of the reasons:

It was clean. It was extremely homey and comfortable. We were served SEVEN of the most amazing breakfasts I have had the pleasure to eat. The coffee maker was not from this world--just trust me on that one. The Terrace. The hot tub (which I used all seven evenings). The locale--right on the St. Lawrence--only blocks from Le Petit Champlain--quiet, quaint, and private. The Kitchen! The outdoor grill. The complimentary wine. The local beers given to me as a gift--out of nowhere--by Claude. The morning conversations.

Ciao, Claude! Something tells me we'll be seeing you and your wonderful B&B soon. Thank you again for your hospitality. I hope that many others are lucky enough to get this once in a lifetime experience for themselves. Je suis un Québécois!

We found this little gem almost by accident. It was absolutely perfect. Beautiful accommodations, stunning kitchen. The breakfast Claude provided could not be beat. The house is located close to town--easily walkable for most. The view of the river is amazing. Claude is a gracious host. And Claude, I want that coffee machine!!! If we make our way back to Quebec City we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else.

Maison La Chapeliere was absolutely beautiful, stunning even. Perfectly equipped, clean and with plenty of amenities. Claude is a top notch host, was there to greet us when we arrived and cooks the most amazing breakfast! Proximity to the old city is wonderful. Really, a wonderful place to stay. Highly recommended.

La Chapelière is a great place to spend the weekend - charming and pittoresque. Claude is a wonderful hostess, very knowledgeable of Quebec City which added a special touch to our weekend. We had a beautiful view of the St-Lawrence and enjoyed being at walking distance of the Old Town. We highly recommend this Gite; we will go back for sure with our family this summer. Cheers!
