Indoor ice rink underneath an atrium in Montreal's underground city. Long lines due to popularity and indoor setting.
Visited this building late Sunday afternoon. Skating rink is beautiful. Some people were seated near the rink working on laptops. Check for public skating times and costs on their website.
It's the Caricature of Modern Day Babylon..I visited the Building on the Day of its Inauguration..It was built by Herve Pomerleau, an enterprising General Contractor from the Beauce..who hired mostly young Engineers with 5-7 years experience , willing to work 60+ hours plus. Most of the SubContractors on that job went belly up. Still, it stands today as a testament to all that is good and bad in Mankind..I have visited the Law Firms of the Banksters and they have great views of the Mountain and St Lawrence River. Ex Premier charest works there also in one of this large law firms..underground access to the Central train station is convenient..Place Bonaventure's next door Hotel (Hilton) on top floor is worth visiting..Windsor station to the West is also an interesting building (Richardsonian Romanesque Style)
If it is -39C and you happen to be in Montreal with two kids, this is great place to spend an hour or two. Yes it comes with the price of $20 for family of four, but it also helps a family survive a cold day. The ice rink is well maintained and it is safe enough to let the kids skate with adult supervision from the side (so you don't have to get the family ticket after all). Fast food available on a site if anyone gets hungry.
I always wanted to go skating at the atrium because a lot of people spoke of it. Well I could finally say I skated there but for sure I will never return ever again. The negative points: You have to pay to go in $20 for family of 4. You have to leave your jackets and belongings at the locker area. I brought my own lock with me but was not able to use it...you must buy their locks to use the lockers which is $3. Also, if someone is with who is not skating, is not allowed to go in with you to the lockers or sitting area. In order to do so, they must pay otherwize they must stay outside at the restaurant area. My husband got kicked out since his ankle was hurting and could not skate. They wanted $5 from him in order to stay. The skating rink is very small and there was a lot of people on the ice. On the plus side, it is warm inside and you could skate without a heavy jacket on. Parking is not free down town. We were able to get parking right outside but had to pay the meter or you could pay for indoor parking. Anyway, we payed $25 to go skating at the atrium (family deal & parking) when we could have gone to an arena where it is larger and free to go in depending where you are in Montreal but Laval arenas are free and so is parking. On a warmer day, it is always more beautiful to skate outdoors where it is also free. I find the atrium to be a big tourist trap and not worth the visit or even pictures. Better pictures outdoors. If you're going to pay for this activity, you better make it a day if your feet could handle it but don't pay so much money just for an hour of skating..not worth it.
There's shopping, food... Great food, pastries, great coffee shops and the best of all INDOOR ICE SKATING!!!!
Enough here to keep all ages content for hours. Paid $80 for 7 to skate including rentals and safety gear. Photos to follow!
