Wow, hard to say enough good about this place. I think we got really lucky as we were the ONLY guests at the place for the bulk of our visit, so the service was impeccable! The resort is right on the cliffs overlooking the beautiful blue water. this is a 'dive resort', but we didn't dive and had a wonderful time. The snorkeling off the beach is amazing, the water is beautiful. The staff was amazing and accomodating and the food was wonderful. It was also a great value! Amazing place, highly recommended!! The only downside was no A/C and it was hot when we were there.

Room tip: I believe they are all amazing!!

We spent 2 weeks at the Bituon Beach Resort in January 2014. The plan was to have a relaxing (free-)diving holiday which didn't require a lot of pre-planning.

Getting there:
We were picked up at the airport in Cebu already by someone from the resort. Because we arrived very late at night, we spent the first night in Cebu (Hotel Pierre Cuatro) and then took the very from Cebu to Tubigon (1 h), then it was another 2 h drive to the Resort.

Bungalows:
Not all the bungalows are the same, so their furniture and size can vary quite a bit. We had No 5 which was pretty decent (spacious bathroom, mosquito net over the bed, 2 nice outdoor seats on the terrace, sea view). The only downside is that an additional shelf or table inside the room would have been nice. We shared the room with a tuko (big Philippine gecko that eats cockroaches and other larger insects) and several geckos which kept the insects at bay. =)

On the first day, the hot water (shower) was broken, which got fixed rather quickly after we told them about it.
The lights (all energy saving bulbs) could've been a bit brighter in the room (I turned on the light on my kindle while reading).

Food:
The resort offers full-board with the drinks (for lunch, tea-time and dinner) costing extra (1 l water 0.85 EUR, beer 1 EUR, coke 1 EUR, tea 1 EUR, ...).
If you have any food allergies or don't like some food, you can tell them and they will make sure that you get something else. E. g. we didn't like seafood and got chicken instead and I got my desert without rum, because I didn't like the taste of it (just remind them friendly, in case they forget, it might take them a couple of days to get used to your wishes).
The food hygiene seemed pretty good to me, we had no troubles for the two weeks.

Breakfast: rather flexible times; fresh fruit (mango, pineapple, water melon), tea, coffee, "juice" (more like sugar-water), pancakes, eggs (all varieties), bread, fried bacon, jam, cheese and so on. Fresh bananas are always available in a little basket. There is also the option to have a Filipino breakfast (rice, eggs, ...). They also had some muesli and chocolate creme.
We really liked the pancakes with honey and banana.

Lunch: Served around 12:30, but you can also have it a bit later, if you tell them beforehand. Usually a warm, light meal with meat and some fruits afterwards

Dinner: Served at 19:30; always a hot soup beforehand, then a hot meal with meat (sometimes also fish and seafood) and a desert, afterwards they will also put little snacks on the table. You can always have seconds in case you want more.
Sometimes they will do special events like a BBQ on the beach, Fondue / hot stone, typical Filipino roasted pig.
During our stay there was also a Filipino wedding next doors to which all the guests from the resort were invited, so we all had lunch there.
During our 2 weeks we never had the same lunch or dinner twice, just the soups repeated and the sauces for the salad and the grilled meat.

The resort itself:
The whole resort is a very beautiful garden and for every meal they put different blossoms as decorations on the tables.
There are many little sitting areas and sunbeds and we usually went there to relax after the meals before we went into the water.
You can book 45 min massages for 150 PHP (about 3 EUR) between 10:00 and 18:00.

Mosquitos:
Make sure to put on insect repellant if you want to lie there (even during the day) as there are several tiger mosquitos hunting during the day which can carry the dengue fever virus. In the evenings, the hotel staff will put some insect repelling smoke candles under the tables which keep off the normal mosquitos to some extend.
Especially the area where the diving equipment is hung up and where you typically get changed after diving is swarming with mosquitos in the late afternoon/early evening.

Diving:
If you want to dive independently, you will need to perform a check dive and the dive master / instructor needs to approve, there is also the option book a guide for the dives (for 5 EUR / dive).
Some rather steep steps lead down to the "beach". You can let the hotel staff take down your equipment and carry it back up, which they normally do. You will, of course, still do all the equipment handling (setting it up, washing it afterwards and hanging it up) yourself.
The weightbelts and the fins can be stored at the beach in a locked area.
We did mostly freediving (without pressurized air) and only some scuba dives. The house reef, we found rather nice. The shallow area is still rather damaged from dynamite fishing in the earlier days, but some areas have already nicely recovered. There were many fish and the reef itself did look pretty healthy to us.
In the early morning and the evening there will be many small motorized fishing boats traveling by the reef, however they seemed to look out for divers and swimmers quite well and weren't intrusive (apart from the noise they made...).

There are several nearby diving spots to which you can be dropped off by the two zodiacs Mon-Sat (costs 5-10 EUR extra depending on the distance and you will need to put your name down and the time in advance, the zodiac will then typically stay with you and pick you up where you end your dive).
We only did that once and went freediving at coral garden together with 3 scuba divers. The spot was very nice even though we did have very strong currents.

Sight-Seeing-Tours:
There is a list of possible tours which can be booked via the resort.
We only did the mangrove tour, which was pretty nice.

Internet:
There is no internet at the resort, but you can buy SIM cards and some prepaid load from Globe to surf the internet (a daypass costs 50 PHP and a 5-day-pass 200 PHP). Worked mostly fine for us.

What we didn't like so much:

- We found the 0.85 EUR per 1 l bottle of water rather expensive and it produced loads of, in my opinion, unnecessary plastic waste. I would've preferred to just buy one bottle which you can then refill from the bigger reusable water containers the Filipinos use (bear in mind, even for brushing your teeth, you should use the bottled water).

- I think, nowadays, I should be normal for a hotel to offer free-wifi, at least in the "lobby".

- Many tiger mosquitos during the day.

Room tip: Not all bungalows are equally nicely renovated. We had No 5, which was good.

Resort with individually built cottages made from local materials. No Air Conditioning.
The rooms are quit basic, but one spends time mainly outdoors.
The resort is built on a cliff, so the views are stunning.
There are very steep stairs leading to the sea and beach.(around 25m drop) There are a few sun beds placed on big rocks in the sea.
The garden/grounds are beautifully designed with lots of private sitting areas to enjoy the views. It did remind us of the gardens in Bali with lots of details.
Eating times are set. The meals were good, the breakfasts were very also good. This resort is owned by Germans, hence the good breakfasts.
All visitors, apart from ourselves and 1 other guest, were from Germany.
The people working in the restaurant are very cheerful and speak very good English.
They organized a BBQ for all the guests on a further away beach on the Saturday. Very romantic.
There is nothing much to see around the resort.
All in all a very pleasant and relaxed stay for people who want to "de-stress", who want to laze away and admire the view, and who like good food.
For us 4 days was enough time to enjoy our stay. Some people stayed 16 days.
No internet access. Our E-phone phone did not work here. It did work in other resorts.

Diving / Tauchen: we are experienced divers who love a beautiful landscape under water. We were very disappointment here. There is 1 wall with lots of dead coral and not much to see. Hardly any fish. 1 dive site with a coral garden which could interest us a bit.
One pays a certain amount of money and for that one gets basically only tank refills.
Diving is without guide.
We had mild to strong currents on all our dives. Max. depth around 25 m.
There is a very, very steep stair leading to the sea. If one does not want to carry their own gear, one has to pay extra.
There are several dive sites, reachable per boat. Boats (Zodiacs) cost extra.
One does their own rigging up and washing of equipment. The people working in the dive center will not do that for you.
Some of the guests seem to be pleased with the diving. I guess that novice divers can be satisfied here.
