Review of Riley Park

Riley Park

This park has it all. At the base of a hill it is nestled between busy 5 th ave NW and a quiet residential street Riley park has walking areas ( wear your boots in the winter) and wonderful, safe play areas for children.

At the far end folks play cricket in spring summer and fall.

The old trees provide wonderful shade for those picnicking in the summer. I did not look to see if the water park was still there, but if it is, there will be countless hours of pleasure for young kids and families.

For several years Riley Park was the place to watch or play cricket, but a few years ago the pitch was removed to produce more open field. The gardens around the periphery are well maintained, and have a wide variety of beautiful plants that produce an ongoing changing set of blooms throughout the summer and early fall. One of the few bandshells are there for, in season, band concerts. I have performed there often, always to a good sized and attentive audience.

Riley Park offers a nice colourful break from the fast pace city life. The beautifully planted park offers great colour and a nice place to enjoy a picnic or stroll. Take in a cricket game and get some tips on how the game is played by asking one of the spectators. Riley Park is truly a gem.

It's really fun for kids to play in the big wading pool in the summer, especially when it's hot outside! There's also a big playground, and sometimes they have a portable play park during the summer, where kids can create stuff. The grounds are pretty, and there's many places to have a picnic.
