It was a great choice picking Kookoo's Nest out of the many options in Negros Oriental. It was exactly as how it was described - an escape from the city in simple yet tastefully designed eco-friendly cottages. The food was healthy and delicious, and Jamie and Nikki were hospitable and welcoming hosts. We also did a dive at Apo Island and Jamie was a patient and attentive dive master. Facilities are great (no aircon though so you'll have to be comfortable with that - along with the wildlife :D), the staff were very efficient and friendly, their house reef was teeming with marine life, and overall was great value for money! Bonus was a small cliff you could easily climb up to (~10mins) get a spectacular view of the area. Thank you, Jamie and Nikki!

If you’re looking for a place to relax and re-charge in a rustic, yet comfortable, and environmentally conscious setting then KooKoo’s Nest is your secret spot. This was a little slice of paradise that exceeded our expectations. Yes, there are things one has to be aware of: the steps getting to/ from the resort; beds are double size; no AC in the bamboo cottages and it is isolated but if these things don’t bother you, or you’re seeking this kind of experience, then KooKoo’s Next is a perfect getaway.

Despite their simplicity the cottages are very clean and well made; the bed was more comfortable then expected, the view and setting outstanding. It’s hard to top being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean and waking-up to birdsong and an amazing view.

The food and drinks (for a hotel of this size and location) were great; the snorkeling and diving on their house reef was spectacular. Jamie and Nikki were wonderful hosts and great dive instructors. This is a fantastic spot to do a Discover Scuba dive and their pricing was very reasonable.

Their location in Siaton (near Tambobo Bay) was arguably the best on the island with calm, clear water and incredible sunsets. I cannot say enough about this place and will definitely be back. This is a special spot that warrants a visit if you’re in the region. Add a trip to Apo Island during your stay and you’ve got the perfect getaway.

Thank you to Jamie, Nikki and everyone at KooKoo’s Nest for creating such a wonderful spot and memorable experience.

We needed a day to decompress from all our travels and diving. We found the place to do just that. Ensure you eat at the restaurant as it an amazing experience. The kitchen staff makes all item from scratch and you can tell. Drinks are also not to be skipped as they are delicious as well. Our accommodation was over looking the beach on the second floor. We want to return and we have not even left yet. What a lovely destination!

You have to book ahead of time in order to come for lunch or dinner or a massage. I like the ambiance of the area since it will ultimately give you privacy. The food is excellent! and coffee by the beach is a much. If you miss looking at the sunset. this is the place to be. I still have not stayed over night but its in my bucket list.

The location is quite magic. A bit like disappearing on a forgotten island somewhere with meticulously built bamboo hut style accommodation needing no aircon owing to the cooling breeze. Hot water was not missed especially given a daytime shower would be quite warm anyway.

The food at Kookoo’s is quite exceptional and all reasonably priced. Try both local and western dishes. Even a hearty tomato soup works here if you miss western food or do the Kinilaw and other fresh tuna dishes when on offer after market run. Nightly buffets are a good way to meet the hosts and other guests.

Diving is terrific. You can step straight off the house jetty or take a trip to Apo on the Kookoo boat. But do note the diving is seasonal and you should do your research for the month you intend to come to dive at Kookoo’s. I understand the Kookoo dive shack will be closed mid June - mid July (2019).

Hosts have a straightforward and direct style which suits me fine. You will do best here if you are unfussed by the company of happy fluffy Golden Retrievers who chill around the open areas and cool off in the water. They aren’t interested in bothering guests as long as you don’t feed them (expect a well deserved scolding from Nikki if you do). Try some other place if you are mortified by the sight of large fluffy house dogs.
