A group of 4 of us traveled to Planet Hollywood in January. We upgraded to the STAR class ocean view rooms.

Pros:
* Rooms are nice
* Showers are wonderful. Nice and spacious and a rainfall shower head.
* Housekeeping was great
* Bartenders were friendly
* Water views are good
* Beds are comfy
* your room keys are around your wrist
* Pool was nice - never crowded, lots of room. It was very hot outside but the pool was always cool and refreshing.
* Hydrotherapy was free for STAR class members. The Spa was very nice and it was a fun experience
* Beach is roomy and nice
* Star class had special seating by main pool including little comfy beds
* Monkeys on the beach!
* the teppanyaki restaurant was great and our chef was so fun and funny!
* we booked a catamaran excursion though the resort and it was our favorite of the trip. The guys were so friendly, the food was awesome, and the experience was amazing.

Cons:
* No one explained the benefits of STAR class. We had to hear about it from other travelers. We were given no tour of the resort, introduction, etc. The reception felt as though they were very busy and too busy for us. As we were checking out, we saw others getting a welcome reception, drinks, etc that we did not get.
* they did not provide any resort maps due to COVID but they did provide a large coupon book to each of us and that was acceptable
* the resort is far away from everything... other excursions, shopping, the airport, etc.
* PH would not let any outside excursions pick us up in resort. We had to walk to the main gate. All of the excursion companies were very upset by this and PH could not justify why they are doing this.
* the pool and ocean are far away from a lot of rooms and the transportation shuttles aren’t consistent
* they had golf carts and vans for transportation. The vans had wet seats all of the time from the pool. We saw the driver go into a hallway of a building, grab dirty towels, and then put them down to sit on.
* Italian restaurant - the service was awful. Our experience start to finish there was over 2 hours long and we ended up leaving without finishing our full meal.
* We still have no idea what the actual benefits of STAR class are... we were never explained this and could not really figure it out. It does not appear to be worth it.
* there was hardly anyone ever in the STAR lounge to help. The website promises snacks and we never saw them in there
* website said that there would be snacks delivered in our room. This never happened.
* Drinks not restocked. We asked multiple, multiple times for more water and didn’t get any.
* we had trouble getting anyone on the phone. It turns out there is only one person answering the phones for the entire resort
*Buffet. There was no variety, the food was mediocre at best, it was often cold. Due to COVID, staff has to serve you everything... but there isn’t enough staff so you are often standing there waiting for a long period of time.
* STAR class pool is hidden and tiny. We were never told where it was nor given a map so we found out about half way through our trip.
* The lobby and the elevators had a horrible smell all week long. It truly smelt like dirty diapers and did not appear to improve.
* The only restaurant open near the pool or for lunch was the burger place. The food was good but there was no snacks, or other food. Your choices were only burgers, everyday.
*Breakfast hours. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7am. There is no way to get your day started early or eat before early morning excursions.

Overall, the area was beautiful and we loved Costa Rica. The rooms at PH are nice, but we would stay elsewhere if we returned.

We spent a week in the hotel in early December, right after they reopened. The stay was very pleasant in general, but with some minor incidents. We will probably return.
First the positive aspects: 1-Staff was super friendly, María Fernanda and Samuel (our assistants) were extremely helpful, always trying to make our stay more enjoyable. The hosts (María José, Ginger) and all the restaurant helpers (Juan, Carlos, Tyrone, Samantha, Kimwa, José and many others) were very nice. 2-Covid-19 protocols were implemented, alcohol gel was available everywhere and mask use was reinforced, 3-Food was very good, with great variety, all restaurants were open. 4-Shows were a great entertainment for the nights.
Now, I think they need to improve some things: 1-Transportation was always crowded and seats were wet, which made difficult to practice social distancing, it would be better to implement open cars instead of the minivans. 2-Their reservation process for the restaurants and cavanas is caotic and inefficient, they messed up our cavana reservation twice. 3-Over the weekend days the hotel was very crowded, making difficult to keep the distance with others.

Plenty of kids, we had ours with us. Food was fair to good. We still have never been to a 5 star all-inclusive after visiting over a dozen around the world. Great clean rooms, great decor. Great excursions offered at the beach. Reservations for the restaurants were very confusing, food was just decent at the restaurants, the buffet was fair. Service the whole time was excellent, bartenders were a little slow, waited 10 minutes at the pool several times just for a beer because the bartenders were less than attentive. The up and down walking to the pool is treacherous, transportation is slow and sometimes unavailable due to golf cart problems. All in all a good resort, I just guess we have too much of a frame of reference.

Wow i am so amazed at this hotel
. As soon as you walk in planet Hollywood they make you feel like a celebrity . There is a red carpet and welcome drinks . They take photos of you . This is a newer resort so it’s up to date unlike the other hotels Ive visited in Costa Rica . I am a frequent international traveler and have been to many all inclusive resorts and i must say this is my favorite so far . The food was sooo good . Very seasoned fresh . And they had a variety. I don’t know if it was because of Covid that the food was so good, but i hope after when it gets busy the food is just as good . The lobby has the best drinks .Vermond makes the best drinks . Fresh fruit , herbs , spices , etc . I must say i have never had drinks this good . Maria Jose was very nice and helpful
. Also our drive Jeff was soo cool and very informative . You can’t go Wrong with this hotel. My only complaint is i wish they had an adults only section . There was a silent party that was very chill, but if it wasn’t Covid and adults only to would have been better

I’m definitely coming back again

Started days off with a beautiful ocean view yoga then amazing breakfast buffet! Jose (professional yoga instructor) is the best. Very calming as he plays a musical drum afterwards. Please visit the spa where you will find the most incredible hydrotherapy pool. They take very good care of clients and were very professional. We had a great time!
