Owner description: Tulum (Spanish pronunciation: [tu'lum], Yucatec: Tulu'um) is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city serving as a major port for Coba.[1] The ruins are situated on 12-meter (39 ft) tall cliffs, along the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.[1] Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Old World diseases brought by the Spanish settlers appear to have resulted in very high fatalities, disrupting the society and eventually causing the city to be abandoned.[citation needed] One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is today a popular site for tourists.[1]

A definite must see. The grounds are beautiful....the ruins impressive....the ocean location was totally amazing! The only drawback was that we would have liked to stay longer! We didn't realise when we purchased our ticket that we would enjoy it so much that we should have arrived' earlier. They will sell the tickets right up till the 4:30 close time....but then there are gentlemen with whistles hearding everyone out.......so go early to see everything...we were there for an hour and a half and didn't see it all.

We have been to the ruins of Tulum several times as a couple. This visit we went with our daughter, her husband and 3 children. Tulum is very hot and crowded. We opted to pay extra to get a guide. Our guide Jose was LDS (our religion), and had extensive knowledge on how our beliefs coincide with the beliefs of the Mayans. It was an excellent tour. For the price of $20 US pp, you get the train ride, the tour, the entrance and bypass the line going in. It was pricier but well worth it. What a beautiful place on the sea.

Beautiful views and great for the kids. spend an hour or two walking through the ruins and taking in the beautiful views of the ocean. They are easy to get to in the tulum area. However these ruins pale in comparison to the great Chichen Iza which is a must see if you like History and ruins.

Ruins are really nice and theres information about what happened in every single spot of the place. Bring some water because it gets very hot during the day and you can Skip the line buying the entrance in the visa/MasterCard machine which is located near the ticket counter.

Well worth a visit - these are one of the many Mayan ruins in this part of the world. Combines well with some beach chill time!
