Traveling as a single parent with kids. Have been here several days and since others' reviews were helpful I'm chiming in..
Pros: The staff are friendly. The pools are great. Water park has been the highlight by far for my kids! They are over the moon there. I love Mexicans and Mexican food and culture, as well as luxury travel, so this is why I chose this particular resort. We love our room so much we just hang out here a lot, which is not our style. I also love the room service option, which is only $5. We do this once per day and love it. The food at the formal restaurants is generally really good.
Cons: Restaurants book up even though they seem semi-empty so there is often only one or two choices. As vegetarians, two of our three nights they had no options for entrees. My experience with the kids club has been a big downside. The first day, my kids were left alone. I walked up and nobody was there watching them! The second day, my child was injured in the child care and nobody called to inform me despite the fact that they had my number. The hours of child care are also very limited and the space they put kids in is a small, hot space due to the pandemic (and they do not give the kids water or snacks, which is really not...Traveling as a single parent with kids. The hours of child care are also very limited and the space they put kids in is a small, hot space due to the pandemic (and they do not give the kids water or snacks, which is really not helpful as you pick them up and they've been really thirsty each time!) Also, I feel a little ripped off at times. For example, the ATM charged me $11 US fee to take out cash. And the gift shop charged me $25 US for their smallest bottle of sunscreen. This would be maybe $3-4 at CVS in the US? Our room was fabulous. I have also fallen on slippery floors. TWICE. The marble floors are nice but very slippery. About 1/3 guests don't wear masks. I've been vaccinated but it concerns me for people who have not been.
The Beach. For beach lovers like me who plan my trip around beaches, this was a little disappointing compared to my expectations. First day we arrived it was too dark to go to the beach. Second day, I was told that the water sports desk was open until 4. I arrived at 3:30 and was told that they don't accept anyone after 3:30. A man walked up with a large party right after I said that, handed the guy a tip, and they took this group out onto a sailboat. I was a little frustrated. So, sadly, have not spent any time sailing which is my favorite activity. The beach is filled with seaweed; this is Mother Nature, not the resort's fault, just bad luck on our timing. Its not at all like the beaches I've been to in other parts of the Caribbean (Jamaica, Antigua, Anguilla, Bahamas, St. Maarten, Tortola, St. John). If you want a calm, crystal blue water, that's not what you get here. It is too rough for my kids to swim in.More
