Great place to stay for family with kids

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 9, 2006
I stayed in this resort from July 30th until August 6th and it was perfect , food was very tasty especially mexican restaurant and the italian one near the pool was very pleasant. The buffet was good too but a little bit less good after 4 days but still acceptable
just less tasty.
Breakfast was impressive with tons of foods hot and cold , never be stressed by the water drink, all is done with purified water and I never been ill for that just use bottle of water for brushing tooth.
Kids were very happy of the entertainment of the night they have one hour for them to dance on the satge and participate to a game each day.
Polls are very clean, and all is well organized .
Only one thing is boring the first day of your stay, some people from the Occidentasl resort seller are there to try to sell you some time sharing so they ask you if you want an invitation and present you the resort never accept that , you will lose 90 precious minutes of your vacation time !!
That's for us the only negative fact in our saty there .
Beach was great , it was windy so the sea was not very clear but
kids loved it .

when i came on this website before i went to the allegro i was petrified by some of the reviews. however when i got to the occitetal i wasnt disapointed. The food was good but it got boring after the 1st week. The mexican was alright but the italian was very nice. The staff are very friendly especially the entertainment staff who are very social. I advise giving the bartenders a tip as they will remember who you are. The rooms were alrite but my friends room smelt musty and my mum had a lizard in her room one night coming through the thatchedn roof. I stayed on the ground floor which i would of prefered to the thatched roofs on the upstairs rooms. The beach was nice for the 1st week but sea weed came to it on the 2nd week and it wasnt nice. Playa Del Carmen is a nice little town aswell.

Unlike most of your reviewers we travelled from England to this hotel for us this is approx travel time of 20 hours (11 hours flying)
we were not offered any drink on arrival. We were shown to an apartment that I can only describe as mouldy, it smelt awful. The bed had insects in it and the stairs were covered in Fungus. We have travelled to lots of places on 4 continents and I have to say we have had better 2 * accomodation in the Greek Isles than this.

we reported all the faults (to numerous to list) with the room to reception immediately and were moved to a second room only to find that due to the adaptations made for disabled people the room flooded through from the shower room into the bedroom into the main accomodation and out of the front door a every time we used the shower, and the Hotels answer to this problem was to supply us with more towels to mop it up. I dont know about you but I did not pay 4* all inclusive prices to be a cleaner for the 2 weeks of my vacation. The move to another room took around 11/2 hours this was after my Husband lost patience and moved our cases himself completely across the complex. The reason the beds are a problem is because they consist of a concrete platform with a mattress on top and are very hard.

As mentioned by previous reviewers staffing levels were low and waiting 10-15 minutes for a drink to be served at dinner time I thought was a bit excessive. The food was ok but as we only stayed 2 nights before demanding to be moved I really cannot comment on what a weeks worth would be like. I also have to say in England this hotel is listed as a 4* hotel in various travel brochures, the price is approximately $2.500 each for a 2 week break in July, I do not class this as a budget holiday. We have come to the conclusion of all the holidays we have had this was by far the worst value for money we have experienced.

Had a great time. Beach was great , food was good along as you ate at the main buffet rest.. The only drawback is kids, there everywhere and no parental control. Largely Spanish tourist crowd which was fine. If your a big partier then this is not the place, pool bar crowded always and usually loaded with kids ordering drinks instead of using drink machine. Rooms are small but okay, a little noisy. Overall a nice resort with a nice beach and you can walk for miles on it.

This resort was no more or less than I expected. I went with my family; Mom, Dad, Me, Sister. All of the posts are mostly true but if you are an easy going person you will enjoy yourself.

The people and service were great!
They loved to make conversation, help, and entertain. A few of the waiters never stopped making us laugh with their Mexican laughs, howls, and asking you if you wanted tequila in every drink you ordered.

We did not think the beds were hard or uncomfortable but the lack of a shower curtain took some practice!

Tipping the maids, bartenders, waiters, and drivers is a good idea, they really appreciate it and they remember who tips!

Although the beach is small, it is nice, plus you have the 2 pools.
There are water sports, suh as sailing, kyaking, windsurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and a few more. The sailing, Kyaking, and windsurfing are free but lessons and the others are not. I reccomend going to xel-ha. It is beautiful and
reasonable- $95 per person- all inclusive- snorkling equipment, locker, towel, food, drinks, Bikes, yours, cliff jumping, rope swing, etc. It's a must see.

Also right down the road is a shopping mall where ou can buy clothes, jewelery, handmade goods, cigars. Also around 9:00 people come to the resort who paint pictures, and sell most
of what I mentioned.

My father and I went fishing and caught a big barracuda (54") and some snapper, they kind of pushed us over by not going back to where we caught the big fish but it was fun.

The food was very good but if you eat at the buffet every day it gets old.

And finally, The shows at 9:30 are entertaining and hilarious. This is a fun resort but don't hope for fancy, just fun and nice.

If you're looking for a romantic getaway, this is NOT the place to go. Our room was very uncomfortable - hard bed, thatched roof where you could hear everything from your neighbors in the next room to people walking outside to the birds waking you up every morning. Bathroom was a bit scary - broken toilet seat cover, shower and toilet did not seem clean. Food was bland and drinks were weak. Nightly entertainment and the resort's "bar/disco" was cheesy - go into downtown if you're really looking for fun! Staff was friendly but watch out for those sitting just outside the lobby as you're heading to your room. They are trying to sell you some time share! One guy bugged us EVERY SINGLE day. The pools were ok. The beach was small but nice. Overall, this place is OK but definitely not the place for a romantic getaway.
