Our hotel was right on the beach with gorgeous views! The room was a 2 bedroom suite with very large balcony off of every room. This little island is just delightful and you can walk to everything, so we really enjoyed our time there. the restaurant by the pool was perfect mix of Mexican food and burgers...and the staff was very friendly and helpful!! We would definitely plan a trip for another visit.

Room tip: We booked 2 bedroom suite was perfect for families!

We chose a 1bdr suite for our two night stay because the suites have balconies but the regular rooms do not (ground floor standard rooms have tiny walk out terraces but no ocean view & I try to avoid ground floor on islands because it can be very damp) The suite was HUGE.

Massive bathroom (very large shower and toilet in separate room with view across the island, generous dressing area with granite counters, thick towels, and all the extras), ocean view bedroom with king bed, ocean view living room with double sliding doors to covered balcony with large table and chairs. Indoor living space included full size size dining/kitchen/areas (fully stocked, granite counters) with windows facing both directions.

This suite (2501) can be reserved as a two bedroom suite with the adjoining hotel room (2502). Rooms/suites can vary in Ixchel as many are privately owned and decorated according to personal taste. The situation of various suites in the building means than many will not have a direct ocean view unless you go out on the balcony. This one does, and also offers views in the opposite direction through the bathroom/dining/kitchen windows straight down Hidalgo street and across the island to the Caribbean. Loved this!

The hotel sits at the end of Hidalgo street so you're only steps from shops and dining. It's on a beautiful (but crowded even in low season) part of the beach where the chairs for hotel guests are limited to one section. It's a bit confusing because chairs from a neighbouring beach club are set right along side and you're told not to use them. Although the paperwork at check in stated specifically that personal items would be removed from chairs if they were not in use, this seemed to be standard practice. Do whatever necessary to get a front row lounger and the fact that beach chairs are jammed in like sardines won't matter. The sand and sea is spectacular and service from the bar is great.

Hotel pools were lined in dark blue tiles which made them too hot in May, but this might be a plus in winter months.

Weather was hot/humid, but A/C was very strong and a dehumidifier was at work in the bedroom. Covered balcony would have been great for rainy days, but was actually a bit stuffy on hot nights.

This hotel has more of a condo rather than a resort feel. The size and amenities of the suite would easily meet the high expectations of North American travelers and be perfect for a long stay or for a family that wanted to cook meals. The location of the hotel makes everything in the north part of the island within a short walk.

We booked through a vacation rental service which provided all the information necessary to help chose the right room. I see why Ixchel remains a top choice even with its higher price.

Room tip: Variety of rooms/suites available to suit your needs. Do a little research and choose a specific room if you can.

We just got back from a 6 day trip to Isla Mujeres for a get together of singers and song writers meeting (Trop Rock). Nice concerts at different venues. We stayed at Ixchel Beach Hotel for 5 nights. We did not know what to expect for sure. The room was large with double beds and a separate bath-sink area. A shower was also available. The utilities, ie shower handle, sink faucet in the cleaning area were functional but in disrepair. The faucet in the sink area was bent and crimped at the end of the water exit area. The shower head area was tainted and discolored. This did not bother the functionality of either area, just aesthetics. Lighting etc and other areas were fine although there were no directions for controlling the air conditioning in the room. Minor problesm but could easily be acceptable.

The Hotel is in an excellent area that allows walking travel to interesting areas and streets.

The real assets were staff employed there. The supervision was excellent and always available and solved all of our problems with schedules. The staff were excellent, intelligent, helpful and had the knowledge needed to solve problems/questions.

We are staying at the 2505/2506 units from 6/12-18/2016. We Love every single minutes here! The location is simply the best. Room service, daily cleaning, concierge were adequate. Almost everyday we have mixed ceviche, chicken quesadilla, guacamole on the beach.
A small incident : we brought an orange cup from our room down to the beach to drink soda and the lady who was sitting next to us took it by accident . The beach server told us that she stays in building 1, we reported to the front desk hoping to get the cup back. We feel so bad about this and a note to myself not to bring anything out of the rental units. We have not heard from the front desk yet and it has been 3days already. We are leaving tomorrow :(

Massage on the beach is good and cheap vs at the spa in building 1. We pay $50 for 2 one hour each. Awesome!

We spent about $500usd the first 2 days on food and drinks for 3 adults n 1 toddle. The following day we bought a cooler, went grocery shopping, and spent another 1k for the rest of the trip.

Ixchel is right across from Hildago street. A convenience street that has lots of restaurants, bar, souvenir kiosk.
Here is a list of places we like:
1- Mango cafe: must visit, love their bbq chicken empanadas .
2- Rooster cafe for breakfast.
3- Angelo, Asia Caribe, Sunset grill for dinner. (Be careful with mosquitos at sunset grill)
4- Going to Olivio tonight.
5- Mamacitas is a total miss so skip it
6- Express supermarket at the end of Hildago on the left is good for grocery. We got milk, soda, beer, juice, yogurt, papaya n water there.
7- Kokonuts has this huevos huevos (not sure if I say it right) that I am crazy about. Too bad GSW lost twice when we were there....booooo

We rented a golf cart for 1 day to explore the island and tried to catch the sunrise. But it was cloudy during our visit to the Punta Sur that we didn't get to see the sunrise :(

Overall I am very happy with my decision to stay at the Ixchel. My family and I are looking forward to go back again. I think 1 week is enough as we were beach out, Mexican food out, heat out the last couples day.
Can't wait to go home tomorrow but will make the best out of tonight . Good luck and have fun with your vacation, wherever you might be! Peace...

We stayed at Ixchel for the third time in a year from May 19 to 25. We made the reservation directly with the hotel and were able to request where our room would be. I wanted Building 2, one bedroom suite, high floor and close to the beach. We were not disappointed! Suite 608, highest floor and closest to the beach besides ocean front. This room was perfect! Very nicely decorated, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and pillows, and the best water pressure in the shower that I have ever had at any hotel. Housekeeping came in everyday and kept the suite spotless!
We ate most of our meals out so I can't comment on the restaurant, but the food looked good and people we talked to were very pleased.
Yes the beach is crowded. The loungers are close together, but we remedied that by taking two on the end of the row and moving them out a little, problem solved.
The location of Ixchel cannot be beat!! One block to the beginning of Hidalgo where many good restaurants and bars are located.
We will definitely be back for our fourth time next year!!
