We stayed at Occidental and El Cozumenlo and visited Melia. El Coz is really worn out, food terrible and service terrible. Melia super clean and bright, employees palyed and interacted with guests, beach clean, I asked lady staying there her opinion she said nice another couple there every year for 10 years very satisfied. Occi is very expensive and very far from the downtown. We were fine as we had a rental car and had already been exploring for 3 days before picking this place. Food was really average or below average. Meat was tough on buffet, they fill your plate for you, I loved having a coffee pot in my room. We stayed royal level. It is worth it for the access to the private La Caretta restaurant. It is 10 steps from your room instead of a half mile walk. I am not a big all inclusive person. We r not big drinkers. Hamburgers on the buffet were soy or vegetable matter. Gross. Waiters are hit or miss. Some are attentive some have no clue what is going on. I would recommend a hotel closer to town and a little less expensive, just not the El Cozumenlo. Check in is slow and cumbersome. Shower was awesome. Great water pressure, large and clean.

This trip was awesome! The staff at the hotel made sure we were taken care of with food and drinks and the views of the beach were beautiful. The location is beautifully lit especially at night with nice walkways and pretty gardens. Definitely romantic!

The pools are cold, there is gaps in time when no food is available, and some of the staff make it seem like we are a burden to be there. Tomas and his crew in the Royal Level restaurant were the best part about our trip once we were upgraded for a handful of issues. But that was the only thing that got better.

We got locked out of our room a couple times, the last couple days our AC wasn’t working great, our toilet chain came undone multiple times. Our diving was great but that was ProDive.

The pools were a bit cold, none of the fountains are running which seems odd, the activities were lacking and maybe that was because there was barely any people onsite.

All this could be due to Covid restriction but I would avoid coming to this resort until restrictions are lifted and they can get back to normal.

Occidental is one of the best places we have stayed in Mexico. We bought into the time=share after staying at Xcaret. We have not regretted the decision. We have stayed at multiple of their hotels for the last 13 years and have enjoyed our stay every time. We especially love the Cozumel resort because it is smaller and more intimate than the other occidental resorts. We are divers and love the world class diving opportunities available in Cozumel. Town is amazing with great restaurants like Casa Mission, Alberto's, Camilo's.

We have been to this hotel multiple times over the years and have never been disappointed. Our visit February 2021 was no exception! The staff is really taking COVID safety seriously. It was very simple and inexpensive to get a COVID test at the resort prior to our return to the US. The food was not quite as good as it usually is but considering the circumstances the resort is dealing with currently I thought the food was very good. There are also multiple local restaurants that are easy to get to and had fantastic food including Alberto's which is less than a mile down the road! Accommodations great and clean as usual and they have done a lot of upgrades to many of the fixtures. Good job Occidental Grand Cozumel! Hasta pronto!
