It is one of the mexican heritage with an enjoyable expansion. You can sit there a while and get a awesome feel. The view of the city from Monte Alban is awesome.

What a pleasant surprise! I visited as part of a tour and was really glad we decided to go. The ruins are quite spectacular and having a guide to explain things really helps give you a better appreciation for it. The only downside was we were rushed and only had 45 mins to explore on our own which is not enough time & we were unable to visit the museum. I would recommend at least 2 hour visit.

Went to Monte Alban this morning and recommend it highly. We didn’t want to spend all day on a tour so booked a shuttle bus seat (#1 Antonio de Leon) for 70MXN each. Bit of confusion but the bus turned up and we got through town and up the windy mountain road in about 30mins.
You then pay your own entry ticket (70MXN) and wander through at leisure. There are guides available for hire but the info boards are in English so we didn’t want/need one.
This a truly awesome place in the real meaning of the word- fascinating. But also to be up so high, see the vistas and breath the air feels great. After 1.75hrs we returned to the cafe and sat on the magnificent terrace enjoying the spectacular views over the valley before returning to the meeting place for the shuttle back to town.
This is where the only negative came in. The driver didn’t return us to the Zócalo where he should have but stopped at a hotel on the outskirts. We had no idea where we were but found our way back because my partner speaks Spanish and could ask for directions. Not a nice end to such a wonderful morning.

It is easier to visit the historical sites surrounding Oaxaca today than it was 40+ years ago (which was when I last visited). Take a morning or evening to visit the site and learn about the peoples of this area from centuries ago. We had a guide but you can do this on your own also.

Obviously a lot of history is speculation, but it seems a lot of this has not been fully explored, meaning the descriptions are very vague. The views are pretty good but the site itself lacks some fundamentals.
