I wandered around here for three hours, mesmerized by the superb displays. After that, I stopped for lunch at their wonderful restaurant.

We were five who visited: two for the first time; two for the second but as teenagers; and I who had visited often most recently a year ago. It is one of the greatest museums on the planet, one of several my must visit place in Mexico City. The structure is wonderful; the collection is magnificent and well laid out and curated. Here we have the whole deck of cards, unlike several other museums containing world heritage treasures stretching back centuries and millennia. Never leave Mexico City without visiting.

If you don't understand Spanish, it would be difficult to understand 25% of exhibits, as English translation is not available for them.
Otherwise, the museum is awesome. It covers different eras of Mexican history. Also the reconstruction of different ancient historical sites is mind-blowing

We knew that this was a must-see coming to Mexico City, even though we were only there just for a weekend. The architecture is really cool, and the way it's laid out allows for a lot of visitors to move around in different areas, so that it doesn't feel really crowded. It's a very large space, with multiple entrances and a courtyard, and the fountain feature with a rooftop is a great photo-op. The best galleries are on the first floor with Mayan civilization materials, and toward the back of the courtyard is the Mexica and Aztec civiliations. Do not miss the outdoor areas as well around the cafe and with doors connected to the galleries on the left side. Very easy to find this museum and it's a GREAT place to go BEFORE you head to some of the cultural sites and pyramids (i.e. Teotihuacan) - that way you have a more solid background for what they used to have at these sites.
