Although very young staff in the restaurant they coped admirably during a busy dinner period. Absolutely exquisite food with a seafood platter at under £20 a steal. The dining room is unusual with a chandelier composed of antlers and the walls decorated with the ancestors!

Room tip: Room 1 is very nice.

We stayed overnight in one of the new family lodges, with the addition of a camp bed to accommodate 2 kids. The room was comfortable, warm with a large shower in the bathroom. The hotel is very lovely, mostly favoured by those fishing the River Thurso and though we didn't eat there, the bar and dining area look beautiful. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. It suited our needs perfectly, though be warned! The Halkirk church bell strikes the hour all through the night, which if you are a light sleeper can be annoying. The plus side of being woken however, was the opportunity to go outside and see the night sky so brightly - including two shooting stars, so that more than made up for it!

Room tip: Family lodges are very comfortable and new.

A hidden gem! We weren’t sure what to expect from this as the photos online looked average.

We only stayed one night but would have stayed longer! After staying at the Bothwell Bridge Hotel we were nervous as looks can be deceiving. However, the room we were given was clean, warm and welcoming. The bed was comfortable and the room was renovated/new. Thank god! Honestly it was an excellent hotel.

The breakfast was so-so but the room made up for it. Would come back for sure!

Worst meal I’ve had out in Caithness!! We went out for a family meal for 6 and not one of us could say we enjoyed our meal. The macaroni was barely warm, we were served French fries (when we asked for chips) with our meals - felt like we were in a fast food restaurant! We all had a pile of rough dry lettuce that looked thrown on the plate to make the portions look bigger. The kids were all served curly fries when we asked for chips. Also the kids could hardly chew their burgers as they were very dry. Safe to say we will not be back should have went to wetherspoons as the kids suggested!

Good afternoon,

Thanks for taking the time to write your review - I am very disappointed to hear that you were not happy with the quality of your food.
We pride ourselves on the food served here and regularly get excellent reviews both on our service and food quality.

Although sometimes we do get it wrong and your visit seems to be one of these occasions. Can I ask when the server came and checked back after your meal and also when they checked back at the bar on payment was anything mentioned? - Although we may not have been able to change the wrong type of fries going out or the dry children's meals. I would have been happy to work something out on the bill for you .

Its far easier for us to listen to feedback and action it when told direct rather than read a review and think everything was ok at the time.

However I do apologise for your experience and sorry you feel Wetherspoons would be a more suitable your option in the future

We were recommended to try this place, the restaurant did not seem to be open though people were in it later on. We ate in the bar which was quite dingy and dark. It was also noisy. The starters were really good- the haggis, neeps and tatties and the belly pork. However the haddock portions were small and came only with a bit of salad. The wine list was disappointing. We wouldn't go back
