The front office, bellmen, housekeepers, pool/beach staff and Coconut Cove staff were all terrific. They were all warm, welcoming and very gracious hosts.
We really appreciated the pool and beach staff and all of their efforts to make guests comfortable. They worked very hard in opening up the umbrellas and providing towels for the lounge chairs--and then dry towels after rain showers--which happens frequently. Club owners are given priority and are given the perq. of being allowed to select their pool/beach locations for their stay and have the lounge chairs set up for them after they notify the pool staff. We had no problem with that as there were plenty of good locations to choose from. I walked to the pool each morning between 7 - 8 and selected the lounges we wanted and the staff set them up for us. My wife is a mosquito magnet and one day at the pool, when the wind was minimal, she was bitten at least 8 times. She never heard or saw one of them. There is a reason why Off is available at most of the stations (pool and restaurant)--and why a small spray is provided in your room.
The rooms are well equipped to include a package of island coffee to get you started. The front office provides coffee in the mornings and cookies in the afternoon. They also have a good supply of complimentary spices available for cooking. A...The front office, bellmen, housekeepers, pool/beach staff and Coconut Cove staff were all terrific. They also have a good supply of complimentary spices available for cooking. A taxi van is made available each morning to take guests to Moes grocery store (a 10 minute ride) and wait for the guests to shop. Moes is well stocked and has a nice wine shop upstairs. Price for the taxi is $6 per guest. Almost all the Redhook restaurants and the St. Johns Terminal are a $5 per guest taxi ride. The taxi van ride to and from the airport is $18 per person. Taxis are plentiful at the resort and the best decision we made was not to rent a car. Narrow, windy, hilly roads and driving on the left made night-time travel dangerous for visitors. Walking from the resort to Redhook and most restaurants is not a safe option. Restaurants we visited included Coconut Cove (on property - we enjoyed two meals and afternoon drinks). We thought the food quality was good and although expensive, but when you factor in the price of a taxi to somewhere for a comparable meal with outdoor dining and a bay view - it is a wash; Pesce (reviewed separately and enjoyed our meal); Sunset Grille (reviewed separately - some issues with fine dining but would recommend patio dining); The Longboard (great craft cocktails on St. Johns); Extra Virgin Bistro on St. Johns (fine dining - reviewed separately - worth the trip); and Alloro - on site. I am unable to find a way to review Alloro as a restaurant on T/A so I will do so here. Its is attractive inside with a great view of the bay. The service was good, our table for 2 was very nice, private and comfortable. The wine we ordered was unavailable but management provided a slight upgrade for the same price. We thought the night-time ambience would have been greatly improved had the lights been dimmed after sunset. The base color of the restaurant is white and the bright lighting made the large room seem stark and not warm. Our disappointment came with the food quality. My wife's tuna, although cooked perfectly, was the thinnest cut of tuna we have ever been served at a restaurant. My half chicken was deboned perfectly and well seasoned. But the skin was a mix of crisp and wilted, the meat was dry and there was an absence of au jus on the plate. I think boned chicken loses its moisture and flavor as it cooks and this was no exception. Although it is convenient I would be hard pressed to recommend Alloro at this time. We had a much better meal and dining experience at Extra Virgin Bistro while not paying much more, including the cost of taxi and ferry to St. Johns. Our thanks to the Club staff and we will see you next year.More
