I can see why this was a quite popular resort in its day, because the beach is beautiful, and we... read more
You'll need a car to get there then a short walk down a narrow track brings you out on Arnos Vale beach, you'll probably be the only ones there. The whole bay is filled with reefs and the snorkeling is fantastic. I saw a turtle and an octopus. Enjoyed so much went back at 7.00am the next morning before returning our hire car.
The beach is a little lonely so be sure to go with a group or take the boat. The reef starts extremely close to the shore and is amazing. It spans the entire bay and goes far out. Here is definitely among the top three places to snorkel while in Tobago.
We snorkelled here twice - 1st. time with Duane Kenny on "Zoe" (reviewed separately) who knows this area intimately and so helped us to get the maximum from the experience.
The 2nd. time was with a tour boat with a group and limited time - this could be disappointing for some?
There are a lot of less common fish to be found here and the coral is in not too bad shape considering the number of visitors - certainly a lot better than the most frequented sites!
We visited this beach twice at both high tide and low tide. I'd recommend going during high tide as it's much better for snorkeling. At times the visibility can be low and I definitely felt the pull of the current, however take your time, go with a buddy if you're new to snorkeling and you'll be just fine. On one occasion a tour boat of tourists stopped off shore. The company was welcomed as the beach was a bit lonely and if anything, they sent the fish my way! A great location as far as I see it, go on a weekday, I'm not sure how many people visit during the weekend however I can see this tiny beach getting crowded.
my partner to me here on New Years eve for a picnic. when we arrived at the beach there was not a soul in sight just the two of us for the whole time we were there. It was absolutely Beautiful I have never been to a place a stunning as this.
Although Tobago in general does not have as good snorkelling as most Caribbean Islands, this place was pretty good. The beach is nice but has some garbage and glass. We used Google maps on our cell phone to get there, which made it easy.... otherwise it looks like it would be hard to find.
