Visited St Lucia previously in 2011 and did not manage to see, rectified on this trip and wow what a terrific place. Came in via Shashamane Water Taxi and enjoyed time in this most scenic of places and the backdrop for a number of famous film sets. Not to be missed.
We had read about this location as somewhere to go during our St.Lucia stop on our cruise so were expecting a high tourist, large, populated beach but this was NOT that at all. It was about 25min taxi ride ($30 round trip) from the cruise port and then a 1-2min "ferry" ride from one side of the bay to the beach area. The taxi driver had us give him a time for when he would pick us up later in the day and did not require us to pay until then. We were very nervous at this point as it looked like it was only locals around, the beach was empty and we were unsure how to get back if our taxi did not show (which was not the case and he was there waiting when we took the ferry back). Our nerves were not warranted as after about an hour many families (about 10-15 people in total) had come in (both from the cruise and those staying at nearby hotels). The location of the beach was gorgeous as it was in a beautiful bay with many private yachts surrounding and beautiful homes overlooking. The people there (both visitors and locals in nearby hut selling beach chairs and drinks) were very friendly. The whole day seemed like we were at a beautiful, quiet beach just for a small number of visitors. We were able to rent beach chairs for the day for $5 per person and Piton beers were $2 (compared to much higher rates at the bar just down from the beach). The locals selling from the hut were friendly and never pushy unlike other Caribbean beaches we went to - although we may have been offered to purchase weed at one point. The water was calm and a warm temperature, however it was a bit rocky and not a lot of sand. There was a hotel at the end of the beach with a bar, excursions and there were kayaks and paddle boards to rent (not sure if those were with hotel or locals on the beach).
We approached Margot Bay on a tourist catamaran from Soufriere after visiting The Pitons, the Diamond Botanical Gardens and Falls and on our return to Castries. This made a perfect day especially after a lovely St Lucian lunch at The Gardens and a few rum punches on the boat. Margot Bay is the location for many Hollywood films including Dr Doolittle because of its idyllic scenery with palm trees and white sand and backed with lush hillside vegetation. We anchored in the Bay for swimming and snorkelling. It is very popular with the yachting fraternity. Its a must see area.
We stopped here on a tour of the island It is a very pretty place to stop and take several photos and dip in the water.
Awsome time ever!!!! We went there with Captain Mango and son Daniel. There at the small beach we met Nicky, Peter and Utopia. And spent an unforgetable moment in a place so beautifull with very nice people. We recomend a 110% to go visit Roots at Marigot Bay.
