Beach bar/restaurant right on the beach. That usually means food with sand in it and overpricing. Umbrellas is a cheerful exception. It gets very busy, having little competition. Nevertheless, the many staff are uniformly pleasant and helpful. The food is highly palatable and plentiful. All dishes I tried over three visits were problem-free, but I have to say my wife's burger was delicious - perhaps the best we've ever tasted. Surprising, but there you go... Great ambience, cool, relaxed, happy, good food, welcoming service. Nice work for a beach bar.

One of the best places to go to mingle with some extended stay and local folks. The drinks are fast and much cheaper than many beach spots. There is quite the variety of foods on the menu from standards like nachos and pizza to some fun 1/2 racks of ribs and barracuda. Local musicians play with the Caribbean flair; some people may be dansing. If you go on a Friday through Sunday, be warned that there is likely to be quite a wait. Walking the beach in the dark from one of the beach resorts can be a bit dicey unless the moon is out. Driving down their side road can be interesting with near-misses passing other cars while trying to avoid some potholes. We park out on the road and walk in during prime times. Otherwise on weekdays, there is plenty of parking between Umbrella's and Cummin Up.

If you are looking for American style food, but still want to enjoy the island atmosphere, Umbrellas is your spot. The food is always excellent. I have had the burger (usually stuffed with peppers, just a fair warning), wings (excellent!), nachos (aka Doritos covered in everything nachos should be covered in), club sandwich, Caesar salad, and the famous pulled pork burrito. The pulled pork burrito is actually what hooked me on to Umbrellas. It is a warm flour tortilla filled with pulled pork, sour cream, cheese, and French fries... sounds crazy, but it is wonderful! Pair the cheap (by Grenada standards) food and the live music and Grand Anse beach in the background this should be your weekend hangout spot. Live music is usually at night on the weekends, but honestly the atmosphere is great for lunch, too. Oh, also don’t be surprised with the “hospitality” offered by locals who work in the restaurant, they aren’t usually friendly and you have to be very specific when you talk to them or you won’t get the answers you are looking for. Overall, Umbrellas is possibly my favorite spot on the island!

We enjoyed the mahi mahi ( grilled and blackened) along with a lambie souse as a starter. Everything was great and our servers were very attentive and friendly. Nice view of the moonrise from the deck. Seemed to be popular with locals, too.
