We travelled to Melia Marina Feb/Mar 2018 as a couple.

We spent the money for the upgrade to the LEVEL and it was definitely worth it. We ate breakfast every day at the Level restaurant, had as many al a cartes as we wished and only at the buffet a couple of times for lunch. Not sure I would pay for the upgrade with kids but we truly enjoyed it.

Food - It's Cuba and there is not a lot of variety but there was lots of it and always fresh. Breakfast at the level was great, didn't have to wait in line for our omelets, enjoyed a Spanish coffee while we waited and enjoyed the view on the deck. The buffet was good enough with pasta, pizza, veggies, etc... and the pool restaurant was great for a hamburger or ham sandwich. Calamari was terrible.

Room - Clean, not perfect, some dings and dents but the maid was great. Our fridge was stocked daily and we overlooked the pool. I don't think there was a bad room in the place!

Beach - Yes, you have to walk a few minutes. Maybe a 7 minute walk from the pool at a very slow pace. But everything else is so close it is worth it. It's clean, beach bar, no rocks.... awesome!

The marina was great. You could along the path by through all the shops.

This was my third time to Cuba and by far the best trip. The staff at Melia were great, everyone appreciates tips (even here in Canada) but they never made me feel I had to. Put your concerns aside and visit. The only negative was the 45 min bus ride but it passes quick with a few beers. :)

Can't wait to come back next year!

Nice resort for our first time in Cuba but this place need a bit of refreshing. Servers were fantastic. The only downside is that for the size of this place were the elevators. When we left 1 out of 4 were working and most the the week we were there.

Our first night eating at the "All Inclusive" a la carte Don Ernesto restaurant, left my palate aching for food.
First of all we were told that if we wanted wine we had to order by the bottle (so much for the all inclusive bit). We then ordered out meal of rib (that you could chew for hours and you still couldn't manage to get your teeth through) and a cup of white rice. Needless to say we spent the rest of our meals at the buffet upstairs in the hotel.
The buffet had an amazing selection of food. Labels were put out and clearly stated what good was what. The staff were at the table as soon as you say down to take your drink of choice order. The staff were very friendly and polite ( even when they couldn't understand what we were saying).
I am definitely recommending the buffet for breakfast, lunch and supper!
Cheers

I have always wanted to go to Cuba but had been a bit sceptical about food and accommodation with this being a country under embargo. Why did I let that put me off for so long. The hotel is set in a fabulous location, the brochure states near a marina, it didn't say it was on the marina which was a bonus. A short walk to the beach about 400 yards at the most or if that's too far they provide a shuttle service, personally the walk was just right. Food is well cooked and prepared for you, yes I have had better at other locations, but it is plentiful and I didn't see anyone go hungry, and judging by the amount some people had on their plates I was often surprised there was any left. we had a decently sized room which overlooked the pools and towards the sea so we were happy, in fact most rooms either look over the pools or the marina. The restaurants are all worth a visit and the staff are friendly courteous and good company. We wanted to do the trip to Havana as a couple and not through the tour company, another couple told us to speak with the staff and sure enough someone had a contact. We travelled in a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air with a private guide and a driver, we saw everything that I wanted to even stood in Che Guevara's office and met the world record holder for making the largest cigar 90 metres long, some smoke that would be. Sat on the fifth floor terrace at Hemmingway's hotel for a Mojito and looked over Old Havana. If you want to make the trip it's worth asking around as it was less than two tickets on the tour coach and far more comfortable. All of the taxis are regulated and can be trusted. Take the open top bus into Varadero for 5 peso each return, we had drinks in the Beatle's bar and an open top classic for the trip back. All in all a holiday well worth having. Many thanks to the staff at the hotel for the hard work that they put in and the friendly manner in which they look after their guests. The big question would I go back to this hotel, that's a definite yes!!!

Room Tip: The only noise problem was wind in the corridor but a beach towel at the bottom of the door stopped that.

we stay at this hotel march 17 to 24.
all good until our son got seek after super at don Ernesto march 20. he order beef, the meet was old with no taste. he told us but he eat it. big mistake. all night doctor and nurse from international clinic seat next to him with intravenous and other medication. very good medical service. we paid the treatment no money back from the hotel because the medical report was made as indigestion no food poisoning.
the hotel decline any responsibility for what happened. we came in good health and after 4 days there our son almost lost his life strong kid 17 years old lifeguard and in a very good shape.
what can I say?
all traumatised, not a question to go there again, to make them understand is a problem with the food was impossible they denied. service customer nice bur worthless, the manager did not care and his taking the decisions.
so what can I say? how many stars? you decide...
all we care is our son still alive.

Dear Guetst,
Although we sincerely regret the inconvenient you had during your holidays, we would like to thank you for the time you spent sharing your experience with us.
Firstly we would like to say you that we are happy to see that the incident your son´s had, finished in the best way.
Concerning to the food, and regretting your son´s indigestion during your stay, I would like to inform you that the wellbeing of our guest is our main concern. At our hotel the hygiene and food safety is our F&B team biggest concern and compromise. Reason why all of them are prepared with food handling course, they a have very strict procedures and controls and we have a partenership with Ecristal, an international company specialists in Hygiene and food safety controls and certifications, and respective certification. Moreover, during those days we had more guests, with no register of more digestive problems or similar symptoms; when we had more than 700 guests, consuming the same products, and just on the 20th, 75 people had dinner at Don Enersto. Furthermore according to the specialist doctor it was indigestion and not food poisoning,.
Once again, we regret the inconveniences you had during your holidays, that made it impossible, to you and your family, to fully enjoy them.
Cordial regards,
Francisco Farinha
