We stayed at the Plaza resort for 1,5 week in a grand suite (harbor side) and had a great time. The room was very spacious, clean and quiet. The greatest asset of the resort is the reef in front of the beach. In addition to spending time on the beach sunbathing, we were snorkeling a few times a day to see the rich variety of fish swimming near the corals, just at a few minutes walk from our room. On two days, we even spotted a large Manta Ray, which is quite rare.

The food and drinks offered were good given the limitations that the island has (almost everything needs to be imported). The restaurant is at the seaside, which offers splendid views of the sea and the sunsets in the evenings. The only negative thing that we experienced is that some of the personnel fed the gulls near the restaurant (despite the sign telling you not to feed the wildlife), which leads to unnatural behavior of birds, begging for food at the tables...

The resort is located relatively near the International airport and about a 20 minutes walk from the center of Kralendijk. We did not feel a need to rent a car, because there were excellent tours offered, party by the tour company located on the resort.

We had a great holiday and were surprised by the rich nature that Bonaire offers. Large parts of the island and the coast are protected wildlife areas, which makes it an ideal place for a relaxed nature holiday.

Am rewriting the bonaire review as an update to the last one.

Prior to coming i researched the hotel and island.
I read folks were rude. I've never seen this. Actually the opposite. People on and off the resort are very nice.
Shops, taxis, guides etc all helpful and want you to leave with a good impression of the island.
I travelled here solo. Bonaire is not a party place, if ur looking for that you need to go to curacao.
I rented a suped up golf cart..shop was great in proving maps and extremly helpful.
I downloaded maps.me which works gps on lication in real time even if not connected to the internet. So you cannot get lost.

Hotel plaza resort is very nice. Staff courteous. If you get a room get the upgrade to geande luguna..spacious and updated very beautiful.
Housekeeping very nice and great service..food is good, although i dont eat foods with preservatives etc there were foids food me.

There are 2 bars..scubar open from 7am to 7pm also serves pizza, hot dogs hamburgers fries etc and many drinks.
The other coconut crush is open from 10am to midnight. Serves no food.
If you want snacks have a pizza made at scubar before 7pm..put it in you room fridge for later.

Service is better at scubar i found. That is personal opinion. Everyone has one.

I came to bonaire to complete my open water cert needed the 4 dives.
Toucan dive shop here at the resort provided great customer service, always smiling and prices fair.
The intructor i had was Tama. She is columbian, very good instructor, explainations, etc, i was lucky i gues

After completing the 4 dives i took the nitrox course with a chap from vancouver (tyler), we both passed.

Following that i booked 4 boat dives but sadly my first dive did not go so well.
Imagine those days when everything goes wrong, well this was it
There was no buddy check on the boat and unfortunately iran out of air within the 26 min.
Moments later at the surface the dive master was not a happy camper and in an elevated tone said i have a problem.

Well, although i am 56yrs old i may be a master in my proffession am not in scuba. i do know how you project yourself to others when learning any sport, proffession etc is very important.

As a newbie to scuba, scuba is about learning.

I,ve heard stories from others and my instructors back home about their trips and it all comes down to those instructors who have that passion to teach others well so they continue the sport.

We stayed Feb 11-25, 2018

Check-in was quick as the hotel is located 5 minutes from the airport. Marco was extremely helpful looking after our needs. Thanks, Marco, you made our 2 week stay very special! Our package was all-inclusive.

We chose this resort based on previous TripAdvisor snorkeling reviews. Unfortunately, the coral in front of the resort wasn’t in great shape. If you’re a diver, the dive shop takes you out to spots that have better viewing apparently. As a snorkeler, you can make arrangements to go on the afternoon dives with the divers, however, if the trip is fully booked, they will not take on snorkelers. Plus the price per person was rather steep, in our opinion. We snorkeled twice daily off the boardwalk by the activity centre and the area off the restaurant. When snorkeling off the restaurant area, if you swim left toward the wall of stones (by the channel where the boats come through from the Laguna). It has a nice coral reef where you see more fish than you would in the regular stretch of reef along the front of the hotel. Going past the wall, though, may be dangerous, as boats are going through that area constantly. Besides the regular fish (Tangs, Parrot fish, File fish, Honeycomb Cowfish, Trumpet fish etc., etc.) which we’ve seen in other Caribbean locations, we saw a moray eel, sharp tail eel and a beautiful Peacock Flounder. We’ll have to come back as we were on a mission to see a turtle, which didn’t happen.

The Dive shop was very helpful – THANKS Diana!! We rented flashlights and dove off the dock (by the Activity Centre) at night to see some large Tarpon. This was definitely an interesting experience.

Our junior suite (2nd floor Laguna side) was fantastic! It was quiet at night and we could suntan on our balcony until about noon, before the sun moved out of sight to the beach side of the resort. The rooms are big and the room care staff were wonderful.

There is a constant wind in Bonaire, which we believe helps keep the bugs off, so we had very few bites.

We liked the fact that you can drink the water, and we plugged in our electronics without a problem.

The grounds are kept well. The staff members are always blowing the leaves, weeding and keeping everything clean.

There is a Casino on site. If you land on Sunday, note that Sunday nights (while we were there) offered bingo at the Casino. Ask about the timing of getting a good seat. It is a fun and lively evening Casino.

The restaurant where all of the meals were offered was large and had a pretty good variety of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the evenings they offer it, we suggest trying the Oxtail soup – it’s divine! Every night was a bit different, with a walk-up area where a cook was making a dish every night (in addition to the buffet). For example, we had little steaks, chicken satay, etc.

The entire service team worked as a team and seemed happy. Thea, in particular, was very friendly and helpful and kept the restaurant going.

The Coconut Crush Bar at the other end of the property on the beach was a fun place to be. You could get the fancy drinks there, refill your water bottle at the bar and a couple of times there were appetizers at happy hour. The bartenders were always friendly! You pick up your own drinks at this bar if you are on the beach/pool area, as they do not have servers come to you at these locations.

The Activity Centre was lively. The young staff there were terrific when we wanted to do anything. We took one of the 11:00am (daily, I believe) snorkel introduction sessions to get an idea of what fish there were and how to deal with the boundaries etc. The Activity centre offers all sorts of free activities. They also have a bookshelf where you can leave or take a book. This is where you get your beach towels from. There is a blue gate by the Activity Centre that you exit when you want to walk to town.

The walk to town (Kralendijk) takes a leisurely 25 minutes. Be sure to wear sun screen/hat as there is no break from the sun on the walk into town.

One day we took our snorkel gear downtown and caught the Caribe Water Taxi to Klein Bonaire ($15/each return on a non-cruise day). For more information look for Caribe Water Taxi reviews. It was a great experience and we’ll be writing a review for that as well. We were very happy with this adventure and we went a couple of times over our two week stay.

The weather was hot, in the 30’s every day, with 2-3 bursts of rain most days. The residents were all very quick to point out that this extended rainy season was VERY unusual. We didn’t mind it. The bursts of rain would be big and last a maximum of about 5 minutes and then everything would be dry within an hour. We recommend bringing dollar store ponchos, particularly if you are walking from the hotel to downtown. The rain burst comes out of nowhere and the walk to town doesn’t allow for much shelter from the rain.

The Sunwing representatives and travel agent on the property were very helpful. The agency made arrangements to rent bicycles for one day. There is also a lovely little gift shop, too. The prices in the gift shop compare to downtown prices for a few things that we bought. They also sell postcards and stamps, which is very convenient.

All-in-all we loved our first-time experience. We’d highly recommend this hotel and destination to anyone who wants to snorkel or chill with a fancy drink beach/poolside. A single person would feel very safe and welcomed here

Stayed for 8 days recently with a group of divers. The resort is spread out, the rooms were large and clean.
The on site dive facility treated us very well. Although not 5 star service the dive masters and boat captains were friendly and knowledgeable.
Ours was an all inclusive package with food and drinks. The food choices were decent and tasty, although many choices were repeated day after day. We were told that the lack of variety is due to limited food supply on the island.
The drinks were good. Food and beverage service was very medium with the exception of Quincy who is a huge asset to this resort. Quincy provided outstanding 5 star service everyday that he worked. His service alone had a huge positive impact on my rating. The pool is cold and no one used it. If it was heated I think it would get lots of use. The beach is decent for sun bathing but not for swimming, way too rocky. Decent beach for snorkeling and good for shore divers. I would not stay here if not a diver because of the lack of decent swimming.
As a diver I would stay here again.
