We dived with the Big Fish when we visited Rarotonga on our cruise ship. We contacted Sabine in advance and she was most helpful and professional. She even arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the dock. We were too late to dive in the morning (and this was known) so she suggested we spent the morning on the beach in front of the centre, shore diving or snorkelling and then did 2 afternoon dives. In the end we just swam from the beach which was lovely and unspoiled although snorkelling looked excellent. They couldn't have been more helpful. They took us by van to the dive boat which was a covered tanga type of rib. The dive masters were very good, kind and considerate and the diving was superb. We didn't need wetsuits, the water was so warm. We would love to return to Rarotonga for a longer stay and would certainly not hesitate to book our dives with the Big Fish again. The dive centre itself was spacious and comfortable and well equipped. We had our own gear but the rental gear looked good. The price was extremely reasonable. Recommended.

I visited Raro with 5 family members (ages 17 to 51) in April 2015. The 6 of us had never dived before, and I organised a lagoon dive before arrival. Unfortunately the wind and currents were up and a lagoon dive wasn't possible. On discussion with Sabine she then organised for us to do a discover scuba pool dive, followed by a 12m Ocean Dive the next day. Needless to say we are all hooked - the dive was fantastic; Andrew and Moana were great instructors; the company is clearly very professional and well run so any safety concerns are quickly allayed; Sabine is super nice and friendly. All in all a fantastic few days with the Big Fish Dive Centre - thanks guys.

The dive centre has 2 boats--a new aluminum large boat with full cover plus ladder and an inflatable skiff boat. The larger boat is used off the north of the island, and the inflatable boat is used for lagoons. 1 boat ride= 2 tank dives for $160 NZD and includes transport to / from dive center and all equipment (fins, mask, tank, BCD, regulators, wetsuit). 10% discount for cash payment. (Compare to Dive Rarotonga which is $100 NZD for 2 dives but charges additional fees for equipment rental and transport. In the end, the two prices are similar after the cash discount. The North side boat for the Dive Center is better. Dive Rarotonga uses inflatable skiffs only).

The divemasters at the Dive Centre are well qualified, professional, and organized. Equipment is of good quality. Big emphasis on safety. Water and fruit provided. Dives are twice a day at 8AM and 12PM. When I went, we had 4 divers plus 1 dive master on the boat. The boat had a skipper that stayed aboard the entire time. We saw scorpion fish, an eel, triggerfish, and ghost coral. The Cook Islands aren't a huge diving spot (especially compared to Fiji or the Great Barrier Reef), and the underwater life just is not impressive. Supposedly they have the rare reef shark, octopus and sea turtle, but we did not see any.

Overall, I feel that the Dive Centre is a safe and professional company to choose for your diving adventure, but I would keep expectations low for what you expect to see underwater.

I did a lagoon dive and 2 boat dive with the Big Fish. The lagoon dive was ended due to weather condition unfortunately but the boat dive was spectacular! The 2 spots we went to were fabulous (coral and wreck) and the marine life was just amazing. Even on a cloudy/windy day we still got visibly of 20M! I am so glad that I did it and will totally do it again! Our divemaster was very professional, funny, helpful and knows how to calm down a nervous first-time diver. The price is good and the experience is incredible. Thank you!
