Description: Set in the charming historic town of Bampton, an area well known for its hunting, fishing, shooting and hugely popular with ramblers and cyclists alike. The magnificent Exmoor National Park is just six miles away and the beautiful beaches of North and South Devon are only a 40 minute drive. The Swan, being the oldest pub in Bampton, was originally lodgings to accommodate the masons and other craftsmen who were hired to enlarge the church in 1450. St Michaels church can be seen from the terrace just behind the pub. The pub has recently been renovated to a high standard with a solid oak bar giving it a contemporary yet traditional feel. The Swan has kept the original fireplace and bread oven dating back to 1450. With Steve overseeing the front of house, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, serving traditional pub food, fine wines and real ales all at affordable prices. On Sundays you can order a roast of locally produced meat from the Hill's farm or if you don't fancy that you can choose something from the Sunday lunch menu. We have well-kept real ale on the hand pumps with guest ales and a keen selection of wines from around the world to suit all tastes. Paul and Donna look forward to welcoming you to The Swan...

Visited one evening whilst holidaying in the area. We experienced a warm welcome, good service and fantastic food. What more could you ask for from a British pub? We were seated promptly (I would advise booking) in the cosy bar, which was busy but not heaving. There was a very warm and friendly atmosphere, which is always a plus, with what was obviously a mixture of locals and visitors. We had a very decent bottle of wine, water was brought to the table without needing to be asked for, and the food was really tasty and plentiful. Of particular note was the cod with Bombay potato, cauliflower and carrot and cumin puree which was absolutely delicious, and the sticky ginger pudding which was a delight. If you are in the area, please give this place a go - you won't regret it!

Friday evening it was packed, but the very friendly landlord found us a table. The bar was buzzing, unfortunately we were upstairs which was nice but quiet.
Food a cut above normal pub grub!
Good choice, well presented!
Large public car park opposite very convenient.

Went here for dinner on Tuesday and loved it so much we went back on Thursday. This is a traditional pub with a proper bar with locals propping it up and having a good time and they couple this with tables for food. The food is just wonderful, my compliments to the chef! I had the best Rib Eye steak I've had in a long time. The staff are all very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, even the owner came to see if everything was OK. I highly recommend this pub/restaurant. A great find.
