I have stayed in several hotels throughout Japan and they are all pretty much the same with some of the reception staff being well versed in English and some nor so proficient. At the Mercure the English was excellent and very friendly and happy people whether morning afternoon or night. The biggest impression was the service you receive at breakfast with the supervisor coming around to your table asking is everything okay and do you need anything else (and he will bring it to your table personally). As I was on my usual business trip I was expecting the usual small little "ledge" in the room to put my laptop with two tiny beds squeezed together and a "bang your elbows" shower room. Wow !! was I in for a shock, the room was huge (compared to Japanese standards), I still had two single beds but well apart and a business desk with a full bathroom and full amenities. It is also within walking distance from the train station where you will find a lot of excellent restaurants and bars.
To me this is THE best hotel I have stayed at in Japan including some 5 stars.More
