My husband & I were looking for a quiet, laid back resort to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary & were delighted to find The Explorean! Upon arriving, we were greeted warmly with cool hand cloths & a fruity, refreshing , cold drink. Our room was nice & clean with a very comfy bed. The sweet cleaning ladies did an excellent job all week refreshing the room. We both have Fibromyalgia pain & found the mattress & pillows made for a very restful sleep. The small fridge stocked with cold drinks was an added bonus. An in room safe was also provided. The out door porch with a jungle view was very nice to relax on & we were never bothered by bugs. Really loved dining at our restaurant as well as Fiesta Americana restaurants without requiring reservations. Our favorite was fish at the La Cevicheria. Especially the fish tacos! We often ate breakfast & other meals at the buffet, Vina del Mar as well as ice cream & coffee at the Coffee Corner. What really sold us on booking the Explorean was the daily excursions that were included. They did not disappoint because the guides Ruben, Vega, Joshua, Luis, & Gerardo (afraid I may have forgotten someone?) were fun, knowledgeable & professional while being very considerate of our needs. We were provided with delicious food, drinks, towels ect. All equipment was in very good condition & the boats for snorkeling trips were large & comfortable ( saw a beautiful Eagle Ray ). Ruben even sent pictures of us by e-mail. We loved this since my husband & I don't have many pics of us together! Snorkeling on our own outside the Fiesta was very fun also. We saw a variety of gorgeous fish & a young Eagle Ray. Thank You so much to the staff at The Explorean (especially Abagail) for making us feel at home!

I have stayed at many wonderful places in MX and loved them all for various reasons. But, for us, this place was special. We came right before the American travel advisories for the Covid pandemic. SO much of this place has all ready been covered but for us, the ability to take advantage of the low key quiet that the Explorean had to offer or head over to the Fiesta and enjoy the party atmosphere was wonderful. We loved every minute of it. We loved the turquoise ocean and thankfully brought water shoes because that was a must for ocean swimming. We loved borrowing the snorkel equipment and snorkeling right in front of the Fiesta. We loved the shrimp tacos and the traditional margaritas that weren't from a frozen mixer. Our excursions were safe and fun. Mostly though, it was the people that work there who captured out hearts. My list will include the ones that I was able to write down. Renata, Josh and Reuben, our travel guides, so competent. Alfonso and Roberto bartenders and waiters, so friendly and professional. GIlberto, Fermi, Valitri(sp?), Hector, Vianey, Diana and Atruro, hostesses, waiters and waitreses, loved them all. Our housekeepers, Reyna and Isabel. We were acutely aware that when we left their futures were uncertain as the pandemic is shutting down travel so much. And we hope that they are all able to support their families and themselves during this time. Thank you to all of them.

We had a short trip of 3 nights/ 4 days. Wr knew ahead of time they pick your excursions. We did both of ours and liked them, but would rather have had one switched as both of our days involved snorkeling. They were both short -excursions. We like snorkeling, but would have liked to see the land also. For that we used taxis and the final day a rental car for $60 for 3 hours.
We only ate the Explorean restaurant once for breakfast as the dinner menu wasn't too appealing. We ate at Fiesta Americana. The best was the Italian over there which unfortunately we wanted Mexican.
We did not use the Explorean pool either. It was a beautiful setting, but come afternoon there is no sun. I wanted to use the whirlpool, but it needed to be warmer for my liking. There is also an outdoor fireplace leaving you with a burnt wood smell we didn't like right by the pool and restaurant.
We liked the room. We knew there was no TV. There was also no clock.
The coffee and juice basket was a nice gesture, but I agree with others it was almost room temp and we were given 2 servings for 3 of us.
Staff was friendly and seen working all day and night and they allowed us to stay on property after check-out.

Our seven night stay at the Explorean was just fantastic!!! My husband and I have been to Cozumel on two other occasions and we just absolutely love the island. This was our first time staying at the Explorean and made the initial choice to stay there from the excellent reviews and included excursions. We were traveling with our adult daughter and her boyfriend who had never been to Cozumel.
Our check in process was painless and informative. We were greeted with a cool wet towel and refreshing beverage and the loveliest smile from sweet Abigail. She couldn’t of been more welcoming our entire stay with help on getting our taxi’s into town and ideas of what to do in town once we arrived.
When I first learned that the excursions were going to be included I assumed they would be “ low budget “ and we were all so pleasantly surprised by the entire excursion experience. Not only were the excursions top quality and informative they were so much fun!!! We had Joshua and Ruben for most of our excursion trips can’t tell you enough how these two young men made my family feel safe and informed for all the excursions we attended. Joshua came up to my family and I on several occasions when he would see us out and about the resort for dinners and beach time making sure all was well with us. We truly feel like Joshua is our friend and we can’t wait to go visit him again!!!
We ate at all the restaurants available both at Explorean and neighboring sister resort. All meals and drinks were excellent however the staff is absolutely the stand out here. Breakfast at the buffet with its billion dollar ocean view every morning was just so wonderful. Captain Luis and his breakfast team from Catalina ( hostess )seating us to Manuel (waiter) checking on the status of my broken toe daily couldn’t of started out our days off better! The food and beverage staff throughout these facilities were always attentive and professional even when I wanted a Mimosa too early they politely reminded me about the law. The staff was always willing to get us anything we needed even making me fresh guacamole on my last morning there, as it is just so freakin good! Service above self is definitely practiced here.
When not attending excursions our day was spent on the beach and snorkeling right in front of the resorts. Charlie our Cabanna boy couldn’t of worked harder as he made up our cabanas with fresh sheets and pillows daily. He would often be seen running to help out with umbrellas needing to be put up or down for all guests with a huge smile. Samual and Aaron were our beach waiters bringing specialty hamburgers and nachos from The Grill and keeping all our drinks full.
Our last morning there I was in lobby and I was asked how I liked my stay by a couple just arriving . My response was “that if you are not happy here something is wrong with you”. The Explorean is just so beautiful and the staff at both resorts makes you feel so warm and welcomed. We will definitely be back!
