We met up with friends and took them to Mitsui's new location in Taipei's financial and business district opposite Taipei 101. We ordered the set meals which we enjoyed in Mitsui's original restaurant last time we were in Taipei but this location offered a new take on the menu. The restaurant upgraded our dinner to the Chef's recommendation which included a wonderful platter of traditional sashimi. Starting from the centre of the platter with the more delicate flavours of shrimps, oysters, and white fish moving to the peripheral of the stronger flavours of more fatty fish. Also included in the menu was the famous long leg crabs and lobster cooked and sliced into bite size salad. The gourmet goose liver followed and dessert of choice of icecream or Japanese cheesecake and fruits. Even though the quality of food and service were good but we preferred the more traditional menu from the original restaurant and the ambiance of the Japanese style restaurant.

We are spending a few days in Taipei for a short getaway. Having had traditional Taiwanese food for a couple of nights in a row, we thought we would try something different - we decided to go for Japanese. We came across Cuisine M (one from the Mitsui brand) in the Xinyi district. First impression was the chic deco - it had a very modern feel where you could see through to the kitchen and the Sake cellar looked impressive. Next the menu - it was very extensive with a variety of sashimi and sushi as well as hotpots. It was too difficult for us to choose so we took the easy way out by selecting the Chef Recommendation menu. It was an 8-course menu starting with an 8-piece sashimi (which included melt-in-your-mouth Fatty Tuna), followed by an appetiser plate with foie gras, mullet roe, and abalone. We then had the King Crab Legs - which was the most disappointing dish of all as the crab was not fresh at all. The crab meat was mushy and it tasted very bland. But then came the grill Rock fish - which was awesome. Perfectly grilled and full of flavour. This was followed by wagyu beef - also melt-in-your-mouth stuff. Soup and rice (with a grilled oyster) came next - again, this was let down by the lack of seasoning. Lastly, the dessert plate came with 2 pieces of fruits, an amazing green tea ice-cream and a chocolate cake. All-in-all, it was a very enjoyable dinner with some of the dishes being excellent while a couple of them were below expectation. As for the service, I would say that the waiters and waitresses were well mannered and pleasant. However, the dishes from the kitchen came too quickly and we had multiple courses on the table at any given time. So, overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and would rate it as Very Good without being Excellent.

First things first - food is amazing, also really like the dark ambience. The sushi was incredibly fresh and the tastes of all the different courses was fantastic. There was two of us dining and we chose the Sunlight Combo for two + plenty of Sake. Our bill was over NT$11,000. At approx. 10pm the automatic blinds started coming down - I thought little of it as I was enjoying the food. During the last course a random waiter (not served us all night) put the bill by my plate. I actually thought they had made a mistake and maybe thought I had asked for the bill. When I asked why we had the bill as we had not finished eating or been offered coffees etc. He said they were now closed - it was 22:15. So a very disappointing end to a fantastic meal.

The restaurant is part of the Mitsui group - which was recommended by friends to try. It was my first time and was taken by surprise how good it was. Modern upscale Japanese restaurant- nice environment, staff were considerate and very friendly.

We went for lunch and chose a set lunch each. We went for the twd1500 set - we were not expecting so much food - we were so full! The food was good quality and very fresh. Didn't expect they will give you three abalones in the soup!! A place I will definitely come back again in the near future!!

You need to book way in advance if you want to eat here. Food, decor and service is excellent. I usually eat at another high end Japanese restaurant but after trying this, I'll most probably switch because this is more value for money.
