For the past 30 years the scenic Ershui - Checheng branch line with at least five tunnels has played host only to TRA railcars that operate about 10 daily return trips. Our three car set at noon from the main line station at Ershui had about 40 travellers with a further 15 joining en route. Typical gap between trains is 80 minutes. They operate on time.

Checheng station is a restored heritage wooden building. There are displays of logging and coal mining, two activities that earlier saw the raikway well used.

There is a good, cheap restaurant just up the short hill from the station while the public bus departs from the bus station near the river to Sun Moon Lake.

There are clean public toilets and plenty of souvenir and some food stalls.

Get a guide to bring you around and explain the history behind this little township, and take a train ride between Checheng and JiJi. Also consider doing a scenic bicycle ride between the stops.

When you are in Sun Moon Lake, it is worth a visit to this place. If convenient and if time permits, try taking the train departing from the station.

Part of it is still working, only parts of the tracks are not functional and open to visitors. There is an old train exhibited there to show the old times of train carrying coal. Also have exhibits to explain about the structure of the train. Spent a while in the cafe and sit outside if possible to enjoy the view in front of you while enjoying a cup of hot tea/coffee. The train to here can be quite crowded, suggest to get a driver but may experience the lack of parking space. The lack of packing space normally happen at the public parking lot (which is free and nearer), so the driver will just park at the private parking lot but it is further (I think the fee is NT$100). But the walk to the train station is just a 5 mins walk. No matter what, just sit back and relax~ :)

This is a station built to support the logging industry in the early years of Taiwan.

At one part of this attraction is a beautiful lake. There is mock-up logging area to simulate how the trees are processed and moved. Lastly, there are lots of photo-opportunities at the Checheng Station itself.

One can take a train from Jiji train station to Checheng station but I am not sure about the schedule.
