I think the market is worth going to if you are in Hualien, but it's not my favorite market in Taiwan.
It's very large and spread out. Bathrooms are sort of centralized and there was always live music in the center as well. Lots of food but not the greatest food.
I went twice. Once it was raining and it was crazy umbrella-ville in there. Not great for maneuvering.
The other was on a holiday weekend and the food lines were outrageously long.
There is lots of great food in Hualien, so you don't HAVE to go to the night market, but eh, why not go?

Good enough to enjoy some diner with friend. The atmosphere is great, people are friendly. Not the biggest night market ever but good enough for hualien !

I was amazed by Zhiqiang Night Market at Hualien because of how organised it is! The space is huge and the stalls and neatly arranged in rows. There's also lots of space for us to walk around. The variety of food was amazing too! Must-try: smelly tofu fries, coffin french toast, beef cubes, Thai banana pancake, fried sweet potato/yam cubes etc. HAVE FUN!

We stayed in Hualien for 10 days during October 2016. During this time we went to the night market two times. We would have gone more time but it was raining and there is minimal shelter from the rain.

This night market is very large, clean, and well laid out. The majority of the vendors are selling food. There is a very large selection of different kinds of foods and all of the ones that we tried were excellent.

We tried the small fried crabs, fried mushrooms, stuffed bread - very large Texas Toast stuffed with your selection of meat, and numerous desserts.

The shaved ice type dessert - appeared to be frozen half and half with fruit imbedded in it topped with sweetened condensed milk and mango pieces was very good - probably not heart healthy along with all of the fried foods.

An excellent eating/snacking experience that I would recommend.
