Terrific location on the beach and central to Potrero. Had an issue with our original room because of water damage and staff worked to find us a different room on short notice. Very affordable and great value for money.

Taking safety measures
Breathtaking. I wish we had stayed longer but we only needed one night before heading to Lake Arenal. It was everything and more, especially after just arriving. It was perfecto! We enjoyed their breakfast before hitting the road.
The Bahia del Sol Beach Front Hotel is perfectly situated on Playa Potrero, has beautiful, immaculate rooms, a fantastic restaurant, and all the amenities you could ask for (including decent wi-fi). What makes it special, however, is the staff. In addition to taking every safety precaution possible in the current CV-19 environment, the employees at Bahai were warm, friendly, and would often go out of their way to help, including in respect to a last-minute unavoidable reservation change. Always, kind, never overbearing, the people here really made the stay in the area something to remember. Pura Vida!
We stayed at this property at the tail end of the rainy season in mid-November and had the absolute WORST experience (we had an amazing time with wonderful hospitality everywhere else we stayed on our two-week trip to Costa Rica). On our first night here we went to have dinner at the pool bar and came back to find someone had broken into our room and stolen my husband's work laptop. When we asked for help from reception we received very little support. They wouldn't help us call the police and refused to do any more than look at the door to our room - they simply told us we would need to drive two hours away the next day to a police station. We ended our planned three night stay bright and early the next morning and drove to the police station two hours away. The police there were extremely helpful and very patient with my intermediate Spanish. They informed us that the hotel had acted very irresponsibly and there was in fact a police station right in Portrero that could have helped us file a police report the night of the theft. Whether Bahia del Sol simply wanted to protect their tourist star rating by not reporting a case of theft or a hotel staff member was involved, we will never know. My recommendation, don't stay here!!!!
We've been here before and when the hotel embargo was lifted we decided we needed to escape from the Corona craze and deserve a mini vacation with our small kids. Portrero beach is rather isolated and not much tourism happens even during the best of days. So it is a perfect place to avoid a crowd but still be in a very pleasant environment. We were not disappointed and our favorable impression of the hotel was reinforced. Aside from from the staff wearing the obligatory masks it was all like we recalled, meaning the hotel has kept its high standards despite the CV lockdown. The hotel is literally located on the beach which can be viewed from the lush garden which -given the current lockdown of beaches- isn't the real thing of course but together with the ocean breeze is a pleasant contemporary (and hopefully transitional) substitute. The pool is sizable and our kids loved it. We had a family apartment which offers the usual amenities for a family and had excellent wifi connections which allowed for "school zoom" without problems. The kitchen has a new chef and menu and our view was that the changes are an upgrade from the past. The ceviche was outstanding ! The cocktails from the bar were mixed - some great and some mediocre, seemingly dependent on who just happened to prepare them. Here some training and consistency would be a plus; then again one has to make some allowances during the CV crisis. So in summary, a very pleasant and enjoyable experience and very suitable for a family looking for a bit of a change during these times.
