Everything about the resort is amazing except for one thing which I'll get to later.

Service -- Excellent. Staff was courteous and helpful. Everyone greets you with a smile and a "good morning / evening" while walking around the island.

Rooms -- Great. Spacious, clean and A/C was excellent in our room. We did have an issue with the A/C in one room breaking down on our last night. Staff offered immediate solution and they did manage to fix it in a few hours.

Amenities -- Fine. There's a nice infinity pool, a kiddie pool, a sandbar, lagoon for kayaking, and a hiking/biking trail. Pools are well-maintained and there are lifeguards at all times to ensure safety. The hiking trail is recommended for people with enough stamina to explore.

Food -- Average. Quite pricey for a local traveler as the food appears to be priced for foreign tourists. Taste is alright but the price and portion isn't justified in my opinion. An ala carte meal averages about 400-600 PHP which is about three times more expensive than having the same meals on the mainland. Luckily, the stay did come with a buffet breakfast where you can get back some value at least.

We chose this resort because of its proximity to the Oslob whaleshark tours We took the 30-minute ferry from Dumaguete at 6:30 am, swam with the whale sharks and visited Tumalog fallls all morning, and were on the boat to Sumilon by 1pm. Made up of only 31 villas, all with water views, it is indeed a beautiful resort. We stayed 5 nights. The premiere villa I shared with my husband had a smart TV, but our children’s villa only had a regular TV with cable. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning very cold, and therefore sleep quality was good, but it would have been nice to have a duvet. Only 2 bottles of water were provided per day. The toiletries were of such poor quality that we had to take the boat back into town the next day to buy supplies of shampoo and conditioner, 10-liter jugs of water, and snacks like chips and chocolate. Only 1 restaurant was open during our stay. The breakfast buffet was delicious and plentiful. For lunch and dinner, we always went ala carte, and the best dishes are the grilled stuffed squid and beef bulgogi. Special mention must be made of waiter William, who is the most efficient, and really goes out of his way to please you. Our days were spent snorkeling at the sandbar and the beach in front of the restaurant, and we all had a lovely stay at Bluewater Sumilon. We will probably go back if and when all the villas are equipped with smart TV’s, and not just the premier villas.

Counting hours to check out. Disapointing experience

While the resort is located on beautiful island and quite pricy, it does not offer a service matching the expectations.

- I booked scuba diving and received email with confirmation. Sadly, nobody seemed to be aware of our booking; diving center kept saying „no diving” or „dive guide not on the island”; it’s only after long discussion with the front tmdesk, when they suddenly found a dive guide and we could do a dive (ofshore only as „the boat was not ready”)

- we needed to ask for housekeeping to clean our room (we did not have a toilet paper even) and the remaind few times about the request as the cleaner was not showing up for long time

- there is not much to do on the island if there is raining. Worst part is, that those few activities (kayaking at the lagoon, pools, tables in the only restaurant…) are daily crowded by the external guests coming for daily visit to the island. So, the resort is not bale to provide any activities, but makes it hard to use those, which do exist on the island

- I do not know how to describe the food :(
No vegetables served for breakfast, squids coming not cleaned or underdone; we basically ate pizza all the time

- the stuff is friendly, but visibly lacks good management and coordination;
The idea of christmas dinner on the beach, under the stars seems good… Well, not if its windy and rainy all the time (which is the reason resort cancelled divings, trips etc). Our child spent xmass eve covered with the towel to protect from cold…

Resort awaits good management and more reasonable approach to accepting guests for daily visits - then it can be good place in the future. For now - better to avoid and go somewhere else.

Room tip: Avoid - there are mutliple places in the region where You can get better service for this price

Decent rooms however overall experience was a big let down by the restaurant. Food quality in particular ala carte options) were subpar and overpriced. Buffet dinner was the other cheaper/value for money option; sadly dishes were all gone an hour into dining and refills were extremely slow to come. For 1,200pesos while cheap, be prepared to not eat your fill if you arrive late (i.e 7pm ha!). Service at restaurant was also sorely lacking with a request for hot drinking water missed twice. Bewarned and come prepared to 'diet' if staying for a week.

Check in experience is fine though you need to wait for the schedule of the boat from the mainland. We took the 2pm so we still had time of dropping by Tumalog Falls.
When we reach the island , everything is ready and the staff just handed our room key.

Room is nice with such beatiful lay out. Rest room is huge and hammock in our room is so relaxing.
Staff are warm with positive service attitude. Would like to thank Mhar for some information about the things to do.

Food is reasonable considering that its an island.Well i saw a review here comparing the resort to others in the mainland.I cant compare because Sumilon is an Island resort.

Overall i would rate my experience 4 over 5.
