Bohol Shore-less!!

Review of Bohol Shores
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 20, 2023via mobile
Okay.. definitely there is a shore but it's not something you can go to and walk around.. cliffs and rocks. Now onto the rooms . The aircon is a nightmare and noisy.. it shakes up the whole room . It old and needs to be changed. Leaving food outside is a disaster with the attack from ants. The rooms are fine aside those. Breakfast is not so waking up for .. heavy breakfast though others might like it. It's not far from the main town. I stayed in the room and heard the poolside rooms are spacious and Aircon better but the price is crazy high. Staff as always are helpful, friendly and nice.

    Bohol Shores
Stayed here 4 nights after staying at another Panglao property 5 nights previous. The original place was 1/2 the price. We chose the poolside villa to celebrate my wife’s birthday. This was our 5th time in the Philippines, but first time in Bohol. We are mid- to high-end travelers and tend to try to stay in nice places with great service.

    The pros:
The aircon in the room was fantastic.
TV (although not why you come on vacation, but great for naps with the toddler) had plenty of international channels
    Bed was comfy
Room was as described- spacious with plenty of storage for clothes and goodies
Pool was nice and did have an area for our little guy to play
Happy hour 4-7pm with 20% off drinks was nice
Close to Bee Farm which had amazing food!!

    The cons:
Staff were not all that inviting in comparison to other places we visited in Bohol. I almost felt I was inconveniencing them by being at the resort.
Wi-Fi did not work in our villa which was quite close to the lobby (again, not why you come to the Philippines but makes checking into flights, calling back home, etc much easier)
We had multiple water issues. Turned off at one point completely mid-shower. Hot water went out. Most of the stay, it was brownish. Again, I realize where I am, but we did not have this issue during our five nights at our first property where we paid 1/2 the price of Bohol Shores.
There was a small conference going on during our stay and the property was busy. Nights 2&3, the rooms were not cleaned until we left for dinner. The excuse was that the rooms that were for new guests got priority which made us feel like we didn’t matter much. We were out of the room from 10am-4pm both days and put the ‘clean me’ sign out. Again, a small issue but it sucks to come back to a dirty room, dirty towels, no soap, etc after a day out (especially when paying what we did for the villa).
Most of the tile in the lobby and on the porch of the rooms was extremely slippery (yes it rained when we were there but also it’s a resort with a huge pool where people will almost always be trekking water around with them). Was tough to let our son run around without the fear of getting hurt.
They have a major bird problem. It didn’t really bother us, but if you like sleeping in, don’t expect to be in bed past 6am as the birds start to play in the rafters of the porch just as the sun rises.
Lastly… price gouging. I understand this may be because the property is trying to be upscale, but it was just a bit disappointing to pay 600 for a tricycle ride that I know costs 300. Same with motorbike rentals, tours, etc. The hotel staff booked it all for you and took a commission (tricycle driver informed me). F&B was a bit expensive and we were threatened at checkin not to bring in anything or else there would be a fee. They charge 100 for a big bottle of water that is 30 a two min walk from the property. I just felt nickel and dimed while so many other places were so hospitable and our previous property even provided free transportation around the island as well as free motorbikes during our stay.

By no means was the stay awful, but we just felt like we were not welcomed in and treated as guests but rather customers and a source of income at every turn. It is clear the property is a bit older, somewhat understaffed, and still cleaning up after the last storm.

We stayed there 3 days during the Christmas period. It was a perfect stay, all
people was vey nice ! We had a lovely room
with pool access, it was very peaceful ! There is a restaurant where they can cook some dishes, the food was so good ! The hotel is not in the town center but easy to reach by tuk tuk or local car (15 min more or less). We really enjoyed our stay there, I recommend this place !

The hotel is private and kinda far from the city. The staff are very friendly and courteous except for the supervisor on duty. The ocean is rocky and you need aqua shoes to swim at the beach. There are no establishments near the area and the price is kinda expensive. If i will come back to bohol, i will not consider this hotel.

The resort is so nicely landscaped! And the private outdoor jacuzzi was amazing. The service was great and the food was good and they had alot of options in the menu. The room was clean and room service was great. Highly recommend this place!

    Never coming back!

Charge for the car service is almost twice the normal car rental.

Very bad dining experience. The service is so slow! The food that we ordered came in 40 minutes later, and still not complete, given that there are only 5 tables occupied. There’s not even a big group out of the dining crowd.

We could’ve gotten out of that bad dining experience if there’s only other dining options. Apparently, there’s none nearby. You’ll need to rent a car to eat out.

Pool is big, rooms are ok, but too expensive for a resort without a beach access.
