The Good - Gardens, Pool, Beach location, most staff.
The Average - Rooms dated and things half worked. Food. Entertainment
The Bad - NO WATERSPORTS as advertised!!!! - reason I booked this hotel. Some staff in restaurant never smiled or engaged but worthy of praise were Sherryl, Glennis and Timothy and of course the egg girls. Bar staff were very poor indeed. Never have I seen such disinterested bar staff. Second bat was open only 1 in 14 nights and the barman stayed out of sight. Food choice poor. Salad and sweets were a joke.
We have stayed in many Caribbean Islands and this Hotel was the worst. Got the feeling that tourism is not their thing! Have complained to Virgin about the Watersports and awaiting a response.

The situation of this hotel is spectacular on a beautiful virtually deserted beach, and its own lovely grounds which are kept immaculate, the great pool likewise is well kept and cleaned everyday. All the staff are very polite & friendly, but the bar staff could do with a personality transplant as aforesaid although polite they have no ineraction with the guests whatever, this is the first hotel that we have been to in the caribbean or any where else that the bar was not the hub of fun & friendliness, one bar man in particular was very dour and always wanted to give you a squashy plasic glass 40 mins before closing saying "I have to clear up", and the foyer bar and second restaurant was never open. The food choices were ver, very limited & if you did find something you liked it would have run out only to be eventually lightly topped up after asking or not refilled at all, the sweet course was a joke. The entertainment was sporadic but singing duo & Sunday drum man were very good. Overall we enjoyed our holiday but would only reccommend it to those who want a beautiful setting but are not too worried about food.

Room Tip: All rooms are sea facing

We have recently returned from two weeks at the turtle beach. Having stayed at a Rex before we thought it would be good. On first impressions, it was tired and in need of refurbishment. We were given a room on the ground floor which was what we asked for, except the curtains didn't close fully and the patio door didn't close properly. The next day we moved rooms and had a better room, although it was just as tired as the first one. The beds have got new mattresses. Very comfy. They do all have a mini fridge, tea and coffee, hair dryers and irons. It was hit and miss as to wether the teas and coffee was replenished every day. The swimming pool was beautiful. Very clean and was great to relax by although we spent most of our time on the beach as there was more of a breeze. It states you have to pay a deposit for the beach towels. You don't. It means charged if not returned. The gardens were kept lovely and the beach was cleared of leaves most days. The restaurant was another matter. They tried to serve al la carte but wasn't up to al a carte standard. The buffet when we had it was ok. Not wonderful but the chef Garfield was great. If there was nothing you fancied he would do his best to cook you something. I don't want to run the place down as the staff and management were lovely. It is just a shame the place is as tired as it is. If you are looking for total relaxation, then this is the place for you.

The hotel is clean and has fridge, kettle & hairdryer in rooms.
Maintenance are very quick to fix anything not working, except the lack of wi-fi. Both our hall light & hairdryer were reported to reception as faulty/ not working on our way to eat at the hotel and both were working shortly after we had finished eating.
Unfortunately the hotel does not appear to have sufficient infrastructure to provide full wi-fi coverage across the whole property. We reported the WI-FI as faulty, intermittent or non-existent in our room on three separate occasions, but although the hotel staff advised that they would re-boot the routers this did not help significantly & the hotel staff seemed powerless to testify this.
The hotel staff are generally very pleasant, friendly and helpful.
We asked to be put on Turtle watch and although other guests advised that three turtles had been sighted on different occasions, one laying eggs in a nest on the beach beside the main bar, the hotel failed to notify us of any of the three Turtle visits. This was disappointing as Turtle Watch was one of the main reasons for booking this hotel.
Turtle Bay has none or very limited eating choices outside of the hotel & the public transport busses & taxis do not make it easy or cheap to eat elsewhere.
Without Turtle watch working, CoCo Reef Hotel might be a better alternative as it appears to have a little more going on outside of the hotel within walking distance.

We spent 4 nights here in February and were on the whole pleasantly surprised after being a little nervous following previous reviews. The room was spacious and clean though the decor was dated. The bathroom was ok and we located the bath plug in the wardrobe! All the staff, with the exception of the bar staff, were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the bar staff just looked like they didn't want to be there and hardly said a word nor broke into a smile. The pool was wonderful though, clean and a good size. The currents in the sea were very strong so we didn't venture in. The waves smashed into the beach all day and seemed especially loud at night! Look out for the local fishermen pulling in their nets, a fabulous spectacle if you haven't witnessed it before - just make sure they return any turtles to the sea as they are protected but also a delicacy!) The restaurant was ok but nothing special, with 3 or 4 choices of main for evening meal, except for the delightful young man on the egg station each morning. We didn't pay a huge amount to stay here so we'd say you get what you pay for, just don't expect a top end resort and you won't be disappointed. Tobago on the whole is very different (we think in a good way) to the more developed Caribbean islands. We caught the local bus to Scarborough outside the hotel (you must buy your tickets before boarding at a local shop) which was worth the journey. Very cheap and comfortable.
