Great room! Amazing staff! Awesome rooftop pool!
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 14, 2015
With a 6 week working holiday planned, we needed a comfortable room that ticked quite a few boxes and Grand Sunset Hotel ticked them all!!
Our room was amazing, such a great view to wake up to every day. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was great ... making it hard to get out sometimes.
The pool was incredible and was such a great spot to watch the sunset. We had a lovely breakfast every morning with friendly staff serving us, always with a smile.
We absolutely loved staying here and would recommend to anyone wanting a comfortable stay. What we loved the most though was the incredible staff who were always so friendly and helpful. We really have been blown away by how accommodating they have been.

On arrive checking in with reception was quick and efficient, a brief description of the amenities and we were off to our room.
The room was clean and modern, the air conditioning was working wonderfully (not that common), the fridge was filled with soft drinks and water; there was enough space to place your own drinks too.
Breakfast was buffet style with the option of freshly cooked eggs (fried, scrambled or omelette) a good variety each day of hot and cold.
The hotels location is off the main road down a side street but this only makes it a hundred metres from the beach, very good position for shops and restaurants.
Wonderful friendly staff, always greeted with a friendly smile and willingness to help.
The negatives regarding the hotel although not many are, the view from the roof top pool is not "breath taking 360 degree views of lush green mountains and the beautiful blue ocean" the hotel in front has a structure obstructing the ocean view and the tree line of the beach prevents you seeing the dramatic sunsets.

The pool is not big but it's the best location to see the sun set.. It will be great if the hotel in front roof top didn't cover the infinity pool view to the beach... Along to the hotel is other 2 hotels ... The staff are friendly when you starts to talk to them but facial expression is a blank ... Small restaurant for breakfast

Room tip: Choose even numbers room to avoid facing another hotel

We have been frequent visitors of Phuket and we always choose to stay at what we consider to be our second home thereabouts. And these are are the four adjectives that best describes Grand Sunset Hotel:

1. Simple - The place is a no-frills, sans pretention boutique hotel. It has four floors of guest rooms. The restaurant which serves delicious Thai and Western dishes is located on the ground level within a stone's throw away from the relaxed set-up of the reception desk, a comfortable seating area, and a corner dedicated to several laptops for guests' Internet needs. The piece de resistance which is the swimming pool is aptly positioned on the rooftop with sweeping, picturesque views of the inviting ocean and the surrounding mountains.

2 & 3. Efficient and warm - These are words most fitting to describe the hotel's staff. Its friendly manager from Denmark whose name unfortunately escapes me now is most welcoming of our concerns and questions. The restaurant, housekeeping, and maintenance staff are always courteous. Most importantly, the reception team is the hotel's crowning glory. We are most impressed by Miss Krittiya who always exerts extra effort to meet her guests' requests! We borrowed a DVD player one time which was cordless and she went out of her own way to purchase the connector cord for us!

4. Clean - Everything about the hotel, in and out, top to bottom, food, swimming pool, the rooms are spotlessly clean!

No wonder Grand Sunset's in Karon's top hotels! Kudos and see you again soon!

Room tip: Even numbered rooms

I stayed in room 314 at the Grand Sunset Hotel in May and found it to be adequate but not overly enjoyable. For low season, the price was fair. $40 aud per night in an contemporary room. Some of the furnishings did let it down IMO.

Such as, the black wooden cabinet table where the fridge, tv and rubbish bin was placed. I've found in allot of hotels across Thailand and Indonesia it's always used as a bottle opener and mine was hacked to pieces.

Also, the shower had stains on the floor and I'll further add that for the duration of my stay I had no hot water.

Breakfast wasn't included in the room rate and was told it was an extra 300thb per day. That's a stupid price.

Great location however. It's opposite the beach which I utilised.

Free parking as standard and the roof top pool was very relaxing. Overall it was an average stay however I won't stay there again nor recommend it to anyone.

*Note* No Aussies either.

Stayed here in June 2015 after a bad hotel experience in patong.
Rooms modern and clean.
Close to shops and amenities, but far away from noise.
Rooftop pool is great and views of sunset amazing.
Off main road opposite beach, yuk tuk ride in to patong if you need.
Also short ride to kata
Good location

Room tip: Not too expensive, very modern and clean
