Much quieter than Patong without so much commercialisation. Hence we found it to be more relaxing and tranquil. Plenty of spots around to get refreshments.
Just make sure you swim in the designated swimming area. Look for the "swim here" flags. No one bothered us. It can get hot during summer so bring shades or you can rent them at the beach.
Good wave size that varied each day. Great for learning to surf (where you can hire boards on the beach). White sand, clear waters with fish for snorkelling. There was some rubbish but over the few weeks of staying on the beach, I witnessed some beautiful locals and some tourists picking up rubbish and putting in bags to take off the beach. It was very nice to see. Some great restaruants that sit on the beach which makes it nice to have a bite then get back to the water.
Kata Beach, what a lovely beach, clean, water is clear and warm, not as crowded as Patong or Karon but has the same amenities.
After looking at pictures I was dismally disappointed in this beach. It was utterly filthy. Raw sewerage is pumped directly into the ocean here. Everything from bottles to palm trees to broken boards with rusty nails littered it. It would be a danger to swim, the water was a dirty brown. The surf was extremely rough, I would fear to swim here and I’m an Aussie. The only redeeming feature is that the Thai people are making an effort to clean up the beaches. Many people were using everything from their hands to machetes to chainsaws to deal with the rubbish, which they carted away with utes and front end loaders.
