This is probably the best beach I have been on. It is approx. 3 miles long and when the tide is out,it is vast. You could walk for miles and maybe meet a dozen people. When you look along the very clean smooth sand , yours are the only footprints. There are sun beds sporadically placed alongside small bars /coffee shops. With the sun shining,(make sure you have high sun protection on, and a good hat) this is heaven. Fabulous

We have been here a few times and this beach is great. Not overcrowded at all and nice and clean. A few small places on the beach for drinks etc and a board walk too. Good bars and restaurants in Manta Rota.

Nothing to see here folks, just miles of clean fluffy sand and a very rough, murky sea. If you like that sort of thing, fine. I prefer small pebble filled coves with Crystal clear water, like you get in the Greek Islands.
Ok,but no cigar.

A perfect natural beach with miles of sand.
Boardwalks from the free car park make it accessible. There are a few concessions in the season with shades and sun beds. The majority of people bring their own sunshades.
There are a couple of restaurants nearby plus the ones in Manta Rota for snacks and coffees.
Depending upon the tide, there are long walks on firm sand up to Altura, or for playing ball games. Good for children paddling. Swimming is best towards high tide when you don't have to walk out so far.

My husband and I visited Portugal in September 2016,and we were on this beach every day for the 10 days we were there. The beach has sand dunes before it,and is so long,it runs for miles. There is a boardwalk that runs beside it,and on one of the reviews I read previously,it said the boardwalk had dog mess spoiling it. Well the people who maintain it must have noted this,as we didn't see any dog mess at all. There were a few cigarette ends, but nonetheless it didn't spoil it for us. You can hire loungers, and big sun shade/umbrella type things,we didn't as we wanted to lie near the water. The beach has lifeguards on site, and they are very active,so it seemed very safe to us. If you are taking kids here, you won't be disappointed, the beach is massive, and has plenty of sea shells to collect. Apparently there is a naturist side, and a gay side, but we never seen any sign of either. One other good thing is that there is only one chap who sells food on the beach,he passed us a few times, but he didn't make a pest of himself. There are also toilets near the lifeguard station, and showers to clean the sand off of you at evenly spaced out sections. All in all this is a great beach,no complaints from us here!!

I love this place! I have been going there for many year and the whole family loves it.
The small town is small but everything is in walking distance.
The beach is part of a natural reserve. It is huge: you always find a place without having to be mashed to other people.
It is clean and well equipped.
The water is usually warm in summer time (the kids spend all the time there) and entrance into water easy and safe even for small kids.
Definitely a place to recommend!
