This is a kayak renting service, offering two boat tours on the river Wiesent. Every day, the short tour starts two times and the long one once. It is strongly recommended to make a reservation when the weather is nice. Since we had no experience with kayaking whatsoever, we took a short (beginners) tour. When all participants are registered, the staff starts transporting them upstream using vans, where the kayaks are already prepared and waiting. Most of the people are taking a double kayak, some of the 3-man canoe and rarely single kayaks. During the ride in the van, the staff explains some basics about the river and the procedure of finishing and returning the kayaks. When you arrive at the start location, you are given the basic instructions, how to use the paddle and the boat and what to expect during the ride. The river is very calm in this section, so there is not much that can happen to you apart from falling in water. There are two places where you have to take the boat out of the river and carry/drag it around the obstacle. The boats are quite heavy and big to carry, luckily there are always other participants nearby, most of which would help you out even without asking. As I said, the river is very calm, so you can experiment and practice a lot. There is only one place that can make your heartbeat faster and your clothes soaking wet (especially if you are in a canoe). We managed to get right through this spot sideways (not that we wanted to) in a kayak, without ending in water. We had lots of fun and are looking forward to do the longer tour which starts at the parking lot and you are picked up downstream at the end. One thing about the kayaks - they are very simple plastic made and next time I intend to bring some padding for my back. After you finish the tour make sure to stop by in the neighbouring "Cafe im Aufsesstal" for some cofee and home made cakes - it is for a good cause.
